The British High Commission in Cyprus is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and would like to recruit a Head EU/Economics.

The job will involve strengthening existing and developing new engagement with Cyprus on a broad range of the EU’s work and leading efforts to strengthen other strands of the bilateral relationship, including maintaining a broad range of contacts, designing and leading implementation of specific bilateral projects, and expanding collaboration in the field of Prosperity.   Report to London on political-economic and EU issues.  The post will also contribute to corporate management of the High Commission, including leading a small team.


Roles and responsibilities:

Proactively monitor and analyse for a UK audience Cyprus Economic developments and their impact on the UK, and make recommendations as necessary;

Understand and lead on key EU dossiers; advise on engagement that contribute to CY-UK collaboration and objectives;

Bring together work under the Prosperity strand working across the High Commission and the Cyprus/UK network;

Lead on the design and supervise delivery and evaluation on collaborative projects between the UK and Cyprus that help strengthen bilateral relationships;

Develop and use a broad network of contacts across  government, economic, business and academic sectors;

Contribute to the corporate management and effective management of the High Commission as part of the senior management team;

Manage a small team that leads the Embassy’s EU and Economics work.


 

- Fluency in English and Greek;

- Extensive background in Economics demonstrated through University level degree or relevant work-experience;

- Understanding of EU institutions and decision-making processes;

- Ability to provide strategic input  to support policy goals, including through project delivery;

- Ability to make and use contacts in the European and economic fields, including at senior levels;

- Very good IT skills, especially MS Outlook;

- High-level project and programme management experience;

--Ability to lead a team and work under pressure both unsupervised and as part of a team;

- Ability to assimilate information quickly and communicate it to others;

- Self-motivation and initiative.

- Experience working in an international environment.

The position is full time, permanent position.

The gross monthly salary for this position is €3,463 at C4 (L) grade level.

The confirmation of appointment is subject to professional background checks and security clearance procedures, as well as the successful completion of a 6 month probation period.

The successful candidate must be free of any convictions, and undergo a UK security clearance process.
