The British Embassy, Riyadh has a vacancy for a Trade Advisor, Grade A2 (L).

DIT is the British Government’s trade and investment development organisation.  We work with UK based businesses to ensure their success in international markets, and encourage overseas companies to bring their high quality investment to the UK.

The Trade & Investment team is part of the Department for International Trade (DIT), the UK Government’s trade and investment Ministry. The aim of DIT is to enhance the competitiveness of companies in the UK through overseas trade and investments; and attract a continuing high level of quality foreign direct investment into the UK. DIT has a network of three trade teams in Saudi Arabia (in Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khobar) that work closely together to deliver services to our customers.

Role:

The post holder’s time will be spent to provide support and guidance on KSA Rail Infrastructure sector activity – identify Rail, Airport, Construction/Infrastructure opportunities and promote to potential UK firms.  Support relevant sector trade events and provide in-market guidance (90%).

10% of the post holder’s time responsible for DIT Financial Support – Assist departmental procurement and receipt of goods and services.

Main duties and responsibilities:

1.      Contribute to the design, management and implementation of the day to day strategy of securing business wins for UK companies within the DIT Rail Infrastructure High Value Campaign programme across the Kingdom by:

  • Developing and engaging a wide range of relationships in Saudi client organisations and the Kingdom’s private sector to understand and develop commercial opportunities in the Rail Infrastructure sectors with the Riyadh area and Eastern Province;
  • Providing DIT and Sector specialists with in-country support including (but not limited to) official programmes, trade missions, events and trade shows.
  • Support to private sector stakeholders, promoting opportunities within UK plc seeking to increase UK commercial wins and meet DIT targets within the Rail sector;
  • Providing market analysis and guidance on doing business in Saudi Arabia. Briefing both individual visitors and groups of UK companies on the characteristics of the Saudi market.

2.      DIT Finance Support – Assist departmental procurement and receipt of goods and services.

Essential:

  • Have a proven record of organisational ability.

Desirable:                                                                                   

  • Written and spoken Arabic language skills
  • Background or expertise in the KSA Infrastructure Sector including Railway.

Salary details:

  • Base Salary including Eid Bonus – SAR. 5,373.33/-
  • * Housing Allowance – SAR. 1,343.33/- (subject to eligibility)*
  • * Travel Allowance- SAR. 400/-(subject to eligibility)*

*Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form.

No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

The job offers the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge of the public and private sector both in the UK and Saudi Arabia, and to build up knowledge of specific sectors. It would be an excellent career stepping-stone for anyone with an interest in international trade. The job-holder will interact with companies and officials at all levels. Training and occasional travel to the UK, across the Kingdom and elsewhere in the Gulf region are an integral part of the job. There is a requirement for occasional out of hours working, for example to attend official networking events.

The successful candidate will be subject to a 90 day probationary period.  

Eligibility:

The position is only available to holders of Saudi residence permits or transferable Iqamas, and successful candidates will be required to transfer their sponsorship to the British Embassy.
