View Vacancy - RoK - Media and Public Affairs Officer
This role is central to the work of the Embassy and the successful candidate will join a busy and fun team which plays a key role in promoting all that is great about the UK. The Media and Public Affairs Officer will be responsible for ensuring positive media coverage to help the British Embassy deliver the UK's objectives in South Korea.
- Leading engagement with the Korean media to promote the UK and further UK objectives including responsibility for (but not limited to) climate change/energy, economic, trade/investment and defence sectors.
- Drafting strategic communication plans, monitoring progress, and evaluating success of high level visits, projects and campaigns including the UK’s flagship GREAT marketing campaign.
- Handling media enquiries and building relationships with the media from across the spectrum as well as key non-media contacts. Creating press lists, editing and translating press releases, providing translations for media interviews, and supporting journalists during Embassy media events.
- Working with the rest of the Media and Public Affairs team – in particular the digital manager – to deliver the Embassy's objectives through social media. Proactively developing content.
- Collaborating with other members of the team and other Embassy team members on media-related events including press conferences, press interviews and marketing campaigns.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of how to work with and get the best out of the media in South Korea
- Good translation and interpretation skills
- Creative and skilled in written communication both in Korean and English
- Attention to detail
- Excellent organisational and planning skills
- Enthusiasm and a pro-active attitude
- Ability to work independently and unsupervised
- Good knowledge of social media platforms in South Korea in particular Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Naver blog
- A background in government press, or public relations work
- Good understanding of graphic design and image and video editing
- An understanding of the British Embassy's work in South Korea
- 3 years of full-time work experience
