View Vacancy - Residence Housekeeper/Cook (AZE19.636)
The British Embassy in Baku is seeking applications for an enthusiastic, creative and qualified Residence Housekeeper/Cook to run the Ambassador’s Residence, its kitchen and cater for official functions of the British Embassy.
The basic contract is for 30 office hours per week with a standard pattern of working between 0900 - 1500 (including a 45-min lunch break) from Mondays to Fridays. However, the jobholder is expected to work flexibly and the exact hours will be adjusted by agreement. When dinners, special events take place or whilst house-guests are staying at the Residence, the jobholder may be asked to work outside of the normal office hours. Extra hours will be compensated by overtime payment or time off in lieu.
Main Responsabilities
Housekeeping and cleaning:
- provide routine, high quality cleaning of the Residence
- iron and wash table linen, clothing
- supervise maintenance, cleaning, catering services of external providers in line with security regulations
- maintain and order the cleaning materials, keep and update an inventory of all kitchen appliances and utensils
- keep the kitchen clean, tidy and hygienic, being responsible for clearing up after the kitchen is used
- meet all health and safety requirements including reporting faults or safety issues
Cooking and event management:
- catering for the Ambassador and official events in the Residence to include: menu planning, suggestion of budget, ensuring good value for money, sourcing products, preparation of dishes and co-ordination of extra kitchen staff for large scale events
- prepare the public areas to receive guests
- cook and serve meals or refreshments to guests with the help of external staff for larger functions in line with professional serving standards
- maintain the event register and seek regular feedback from Ambassador, event organizers and guests to improve services
Shopping and stocks
- be responsible for shopping and meal planning in line with Ambassador’s wishes, including maintaining a stock of basic foodstuff and personal shopping requirements for Ambassador
- shop for food/provisions required for special events and efficient accounting for procured products; maintenance of expenditure register
- ensure food safety (storage, handling and distribution)
- maintain an inventory of beverage (including alcohol) supplies, ensuring that stocks are replenished in good time
- Two years of relevant work experience (cooking and cleaning skills will be tested)
- Fluent Azerbaijani skills
- Intermediate English language skills (will be tested)
- Sound knowledge of food safety and hygiene
- Good communication and problem-solving skills
- Strong planning and organisational skills
- Strong work ethic and flexibility
- Intermediate computer skills (Word and Excel)
- Respect the British Embassy’s commitment to the environment (saving energy, reducing waste, using organic ingredients)
- Good Russian skills
- Experience in hotel housekeeping and event management
- Cooking qualification
This is a permanent part-time position of five working days, 30 hours net per week.
The salary is USD 734.22 gross per month and shall be paid in AZN monthly.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Azerbaijan is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service of the FCO according to local labour legislation.
