The British Embassy in Doha is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. The Embassy is looking to recruit a Digital Learning & Development Designer, Trade and Policy Negotiations Faculty, Grade C4 (L) to start as soon as possible.

The jobholder may be based in one of the following locations: Doha or Bahrain. Applicants should only apply once to their preferred job location.


Main Purpose of the Job:

This role will work with our existing digital designer and focus on using technology to create innovative learning experiences in support of the Trade Faculty goal: Professional learning and development that builds expertise and agility to enable Her Majesty’s Government (HMG) to develop an ambitious independent trade agenda.

We are looking for an individual who is a strong visual communicator with a proven background in the design of learning content, including e-learning and online courses, and the curation of materials in a digital learning environment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead strategic project delivery working with a virtual team, in developing our global learning offer in line with the Diplomatic Academy vision and FCO values
  • Lead strategic project delivery to develop digital content including: i) e-learning packages on GOMO and ii) other digital learning resources e.g. PowerPoint packs, infographics, newsletters etc. in support of Trade Faculty engagements
  • Proactively lead and influence the Trade Faculty leadership team on appropriate digital learning solutions including strategic recommendations for continuously improving our learning offer
  • Analyse data, indicators and trends from our customer database and network, to feed into   recommendations for improvement and where necessary build business cases to ensure the learning offer remains current and modern      
  • In conjunction with the KTD L&D Head, ensure any recommendations are aligned with Tech Overhaul capability
  • Advise senior stakeholders work with subject experts to ensure that learning resources are accessible, engaging and follow modern workplace learning principles
  • Ensure excellence in editing of video and audio material for inclusion in learning packages and lead on digital content management and curation of material on the LMS
  • Establishing, designing and moderating online social learning experiences using up-to-date tools
  • Ensure ongoing smooth running and continuous improvement of the overall digital learning portfolio, through evaluation of learning resources based on data-driven analysis of user needs, behaviours and preferences

  • Fluency in English (both oral and written)

  • Ability to manage project stakeholders and work collaboratively to apply design methodologies (eg ADDIE / Agile) to create engaging, accessible, and interactive learning experiences. Demonstrates creative design thinking
  • Excellence with: authoring tools particularly GOMO, applying strong visual and creative communication skills (infographics, working with images, graphic design, storytelling), audio/video production (recording and editing)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience administering Learning Management Systems
  • Instructional design and UX design (evidence will be requested of previous work)
  • Ability to work closely with Subject Matter Experts to elicit, structure and review content.
  • Comfortable working with a wide range of digital tools including Adobe Creative Cloud, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat and Premier Pro
  • E-Learning storyboarding capabilities
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment
  • Understanding of the UK government and its international objectives
  • Experience of taking a lead role within project or team – good organisational skills and ability to manage multiple work streams

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The British Embassy offers a competitive remuneration package, including non-negotiable salary of QR 23,042 per calendar month and transportation allowance of QR 800 per calendar month, paid in arrears. The contract will be for a full time employment, on a fixed term for 15 months subject to a 6-month probationary period.

No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Conditioned working hours are 38 hours per week. Embassy working hours are 7.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday and 7.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. on Thursday.

The position is offered on a non-sponsored basis and extensive flexible working is suitable for this role e.g. up to 5 days a week from home or compressed hours, however, this is after the initial probation period where there will be some requirement to be in the office.

Most of the team are based in London; we have one digital designer based in Dubai. The jobholder may be required to visit the designer based in Dubai at regular intervals and the team in the UK no more than twice per year.

Jobholder will be expected to maintain their skills to industry standards; funding for suitable L&D opportunities will be available.

The successful candidate will need to commence security clearance procedures through the Embassy.

Eligibility:

Applicants must already reside in Qatar, have a valid residence permit and therefore hold the right to live and work there, including those either under spouse sponsorship or be able to transfer an existing sponsorship to the British Embassy.

Process:

The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around two months.
