The British Embassy in Stockholm is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Climate Change and Energy Officer to contribute to British Embassy Stockholm work to combat Climate Change. You will focus on action to support delivery of the 26th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) in November 2020, which the UK will host in Glasgow in partnership with Italy.  You will help ensure delivery of COP26 outcomes in 2021. You will also support longer-term climate change and clean energy objectives.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • To support implementation of the Embassy’s COP26 strategy for Sweden. This will require you to work closely with our Political Attaché for Climate Change and Energy, with our Science and Innovation Officer and with economic, political, prosperity, trade and communications colleagues. You role will include policy and project delivery aligned with COP26 objectives that supports long-term decarbonisation, resilience & adaptation objectives, clean growth, energy transition, nature-based solutions and green finance.
  • To work with a network of colleagues in the Nordic Baltic countries on regional climate change initiatives related to COP26. This will require identification of shared opportunities, co-ordination of activity and management of resources across the network and reporting on progress to London.
  • To support the communications team in developing and delivering communications on climate and COP26.
  • To build a network of working level contacts in national and local governments across Sweden, in business, civil society and youth groups in support of COP26 activity.
  • To support Ministerial and official visits from the UK related to COP26 and climate events in Sweden .This could include organising visit agendas and supporting events as required. Ensure UK departments ae well prepared to receive inward visits from Swedish officials and Minister, including to COP26, as well as to pre-COP events in third countries.
  • To seek opportunities for maximising cooperation between the UK and Sweden on climate and energy matters, and help design and lead campaigns and projects that support these areas of co-operation.
  • Fluency in English and Swedish (both oral and written, minimum of C2 level for English and minimum of C1 level for Sweden*).
  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working for an organisation in a relevant field, for example, working for/with national or regional government, international organizations or agencies, preferably in climate change.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to work in a team.
  • Strong understanding of international climate change policy, with relevant experience including from university or previous professional work experience.
  • Experience of managing diverse and senior level relationships.
  • Knowledge or experience of project management and / or communications work.
