The British Embassy in Rome is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Project Delivery Support Officer for its Foreign and Security Policy team, to support the delivery of the 26th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26).

For 2020, we plan an ambitious programme of events in Rome and in different Italian regions culminating in the Preparatory event or Pre-COP26 hosted by the Italian Government in Milan this Autumn. The successful candidate will support the Energy and Climate Officer and COP26 Officer in the Foreign and Security Policy team to support the practical delivery of these types of diplomatic outreach and engagement activities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Supporting the planning and successful delivery of COP26-related diplomatic outreach and engagement activities and events, targeting key Italian stakeholders;

Administrative support for the work of the Climate team and wider Chancery, including logistic and communication support for Ministerial and official visits from the UK related to COP26 and delivery of pre-COP events in Italy;

Assist with writing and compiling briefing packs, drafting the monthly climate update, drafting of letters, invitations etc.

Help to map, track and maintain sector relevant stakeholders across government, civil society, business and other in line with COP26 objectives;

Learn to use effectively the FCO IT systems (MS Office 365, MS-Teams, etc.);

Actively participate in a wider corporate capacity within the Embassy, contributing to the wider corporate agenda of the Italy network.

  • Excellent command (both oral and written) of English and Italian, Common European Framework level/equivalent C1 or above;
  • Excellent organisational skills, including successful experience with organisation of complex events with many participants, and working to tight timelines;
  • Excellent IT skills, including proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams);
  • Previous knowledge of climate issues and a sound understanding of the importance of COP26 in tackling climate change;
  • Good networking and relationship management skills. The successful candidate will need to work with colleagues to develop and extend existing contacts, and handle professionally polite and effective communications with a wide network of stakeholders and participants in our events;
  • Flexible approach, strong initiative and adaptability to evolving work priorities;
  • Proven track record in working well with others both as part of a close-knit team but also working with colleagues across the Italy network and stakeholders in Whitehall;
  • Strong communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.

This is a full-time temporary position with a contract of 12 months, with possibility of renewal, graded at A2(L) according to the FCO grading structure.

The monthly gross salary is € 2,312.00. The salary is paid monthly 14 times per year including € 10.33 EDR paid 13 times per year, with double salary payments in June and December. If working less than a full calendar year, the additional salary payments will be pro-rata.

Working hours are 35 hrs per week with some flexibility allowed.

The appointment is subject to security clearance and the successful completion of a 4-month probationary period.

All staff employed by the British Embassy are subject to Italian income tax rate deductions (IRPEF). However, the administration of these tax payments will vary depending on nationality.

The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Italian State Social Security Scheme.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Rome are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local Italian employment law.

Visa / Passport requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Italy and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
