The British Embassy in Athens is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a IT Support Officer.

The IT Support Officer will ensure availability and security of the FCDO ICT systems (Firecrest, Echo, Standalone) for the Mission in Greece (British Embassy in Athens and Network Posts)

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Liaising effectively with UK operational services (e.g. Help Desk) in providing first line support to users in the Greece Network
  • Proactively help and support the IT team at FCO London in maintaining the Firecrest desktop and infrastructure (system) in the Greece Network
  • Help ensure maximum availability of the Firecrest system & services by closely monitoring system performance and resolving IT problems in conjunction with support from the UK Help Desk and other IT stakeholders;
  • Ensure availability and security of the Greece Network Standalone IT system by closely monitoring system performance and user compliance with FCO policy
  • Provide a focal point for local users on all IT related queries
  • Help ensure the security of the system and ensure that any potential breaches of security are reported and investigated
  • Undertaking regular systems maintenance checks on the system (e.g. active involvement in the daily/weekly/monthly tasks and updating a log of work performed
  • Undertaking regular and/or ad-hoc approved upgrades as requested by FCO London
  • Ensuring all FCO IT security procedures are complied with
  • Provide technical support for various events/conferences/meetings organised by the Embassy
  • Act  on ad hoc HMA/DHM requests within agreed timeframe

    

  • Excellent communication skills with fluency in English and Greek (written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework* or equivalent)
  • Robust knowledge of IT systems and software, especially Networks
  • Good track record of customer care, ideally in an IT technical support position
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Experience/skills in working both as part of a team and unsupervised
  • Advanced Knowledge of Microsoft Office

The British Embassy offers a competitive remuneration package, 24 days annual leave entitlement (given pro-rata to staff on fixed-term contracts and/or staff working part-time), a training package and flexible working opportunities. Monthly salary for this position is EUR 1711.48 (Gross) currently payable 14 times a year (as per Greek labour law). An individual personal development plan will be agreed with the successful candidate.

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background and security clearance. 

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy is subject to terms and conditions service according to Greek employment law. The British Embassy does not sponsor work permits.

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Greece and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
