Main purpose of job:
The Home Office International Operations (HOIO) is looking for an Intern to work as part of the team based at the British Embassy in Panama. The successful applicant will play an integral part in delivering the projects funded by the Home Office in Panama. Duties will include supporting the actions towards the delivery of projects planned for the country in the following months, collating statistics and information, background research, writing reports, meeting business contacts, as well as helping organise high profile events and visit programmes.
Great team working skills, flexibility, resilience and professionalism are essential for this role.
The successful applicant will gain a broad range of experience and knowledge regarding liaison with law-enforcement agencies, which they can use to progress their career. This is a great opportunity to engage closely with the public and private sectors in Panama in support of the team’s objectives.
This position requires integrity and discretion. All candidates should be aware that this appointment is subject to security checks and clearance prior to job offer.
Roles and responsibilities:
- To support the team’s programme of projects, which involve trainings and events with Panamenian and international stakeholders;
- Working in close partnership with colleagues to support the delivery of said projects, including help with planning events and VIP visits, analysis and briefing;
- Identifying and taking-up opportunities to improve delivery of projects;
- Fulfilling the requirements of performance appraisal process, including establishing and executing a personal development plan; fully comply with Home Office and Embassy policies and embrace the Embassy values of Respect, Innovation, Collaboration and Enjoyment;
- Performing other reasonable tasks as requested by the HOIO Team.

Working patterns:
Max. 30 hours per week, Monday – Friday
Requests for flexible working arrangements will be considered.
The successful candidate must be Panamanian, or have a valid and current Work Permit through Ministry of Labour, and be able to provide it when requested by Embassy. The British Embassy – Panama City does not sponsor work permits. Office hours in the embassy are 8am-5pm Monday to Thursday and 8am-1pm on Fridays, though there is scope for flexible working arrangements, which can be agreed with the Line Manager. Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
