The British Consulate General in Istanbul is part of a world-wide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for an Aviation Security Office Manager. The Aviation Security Office in Istanbul was opened recently and focuses on aviation security issues in Turkey. A key part of the work involves diplomacy and liaison with the various Host State government authorities on wide ranging aviation security issues. The office has frequent contact with colleagues in Ankara and across the Turkey Network, Aviation Security Officers in other relevant Missions, and with airlines and security providers operating in the region. 

The Office Manager will be required to manage the office and take the lead whilst the Aviation Security Liaison Officers (ALSOs) are on business trips; which are frequent. The position supports the high priority work that the UK is doing on aviation security in Turkey and across the globe. The Office Manager will manage the Aviation Security Office in British Consulate General in Istanbul, working closely with Corporate Services, colleagues in Ankara and across the Turkey Network, Department for Transport (DFT) colleagues in London, the Turkish Government and other countries’ aviation security teams as well as airlines and security companies. As part of their responsibilities, the post holder will assist in managing a portfolio of aviation security projects (that may include aviation security training, staff mentoring and the provision of security equipment). The Officer may also be required to provide aviation security advice to key stakeholders.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Providing effective and efficient office support to the two resident ASLOs including: leading on all administrative procedures including record keeping, travel bookings, organising meets/events and expense reconciliation;
  • Drafting of Note Verbales and other formal correspondence;
  • Process incoming and outgoing post as well as well as telephone and email enquiries;
  • Ensuring ASLO accounts and expenditure are kept up to date and in line with FCO and UK DfT processes;
  • To plan, manage, implement and evaluate ASLO aviation security projects on a timely basis in the Region;
  • Managing any Programme budget;
  • Initiating project proposals and taking responsibility for their planning, financial management and delivery;
  • Monitoring, assessing, evaluating and reporting on local aviaion security standards and procedures (particularly following capacity building assistance);
  • Monitoring and assessing local media and other sources for news and developments in aviation security;
  • Providing advice and briefing to key stakeholders on aviation security matters in the region;
  • Providing cover and links to the ASLOs when on leave/official business;
  • Translating and interpreting between Turkish and English as required.

 

The successful candidate will be organised, politically astute and able to identify, develop and manage key relationships to achieve UK Aviation Security objectives in the region. Good communication and proven stakeholder skills are therefore essential

Candidates should also have the ability to think logically/laterally, project manage and be able to display sound judgement and common sense.

Previous aviation security knowledge and diplomatic experience are desirable, but not essential. 

Team working skills are essential. 

Candidates should be able to write and speak fluently in both English and Turkish. Short listed candidates will need to pass a language exam.

The job holder should have availability to travel. There is potential for a small amount of travel around Turkey and beyond.  The Officer may be required to represent the ASLOs and the DFT at overseas meetings with senior personnel.
