Security

Main purpose of job:

To ensure the security of the British High Commission staff, visitors and our estate.  

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:

The job holder is expected to raise the standard of security awareness and adherence to security guidance among staff and contractors. This includes ensuring security guidance is followed and looking for ways to continually improve the security of the High Commission staff, visitors and our estate.

 

Contract Management:  

Negotation and day to day management of the security contract for guarding and facilities managmenet.

Guard Management:      

Day to day management of contract guards in Floreal and Port Louis. 

Training:     

Provide security guidance and training to staff, visitors and contractors.              

Equipment Management:

Checks and management of security equipment, such as radios, entry/exit gates, key register, satellite phones and locks. 

Crisis Management:    

To lead on security issues as part of business continuity

Inspections:                    

Regular inspections of all security measures to ensure compliance and suggest improvements.

 

Resources managed (staff and expenditure)

  • Security budget of around 1.4M MUR
  • Day to day management of contract guards

Language requirements:

Language: Fluent English (both written and spoken) and fluent French (spoken) is essential.   Creole (spoken only) is desirable.

Essential on arrival:

At least 3 years recent security and associated contract management experience, preferably at managerial level.

IT literate

Desirable:

  • Experience of working in security for an international organisation or local government, e.g. embassy, international
    company or local government.
  • A clean driving licence

  • Training to be provided on the job and through regional support from our Overseas Security Manager based in Pretoria.
  • Personal development courses arranged by the Regional Learning and Development Team in Pretoria.

Working patterns:

The role is part time, 12 hours per week. The working pattern is flexible within standard High Commission office hours unless there is an event taking place that needs security supervision outside of these hours.
Such events are adhoc, but usually take place in the evening at Floreal and occur on average 2 - 4 times per month.
