The British Embassy in Paris is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. It is also part of the UK’s France Network (including offices in Lyon, Bordeaux and Marseille) and representation to international organisations in Paris (OECD and UNESCO) and Strasbourg (CoE).The France Network is looking for a Messenger-Security Officer based in Paris.
The Messenger/Security Officer will work as part of a Mailroom Security team and be responsible for providing an alert and professional guard presence at the British Embassy, Residence and Consular Section.
Roles and Responsibilities:
•Controlling a vehicle and pedestrian entrance to the British Embassy, including conducting vehicle searches.
•Working as Security Officer at the Consular Section, supervising the control of access to our building.
•Supervising security procedures.
•Locking and unlocking procedures.
•Escorting visitors, contractors and deliveries.
Additional ad hoc tasks assigned by the Security Manager, when required:
•Working as Security Officer at the Residence, supervising the control of access to our buildings.
•Monitoring the CCTV and alarm systems.
•Registering the entrance and leaving of staff and visitors.
•Issuing passes to visitors.
•Supervising contractors at the Chancery.
•Registering and scanning mail and parcels delivered to the Embassy.
•Liaising with French Authorities when required by HR Office.
•Checking guest lists during events organized at the Residence or Embassy, dealing with members of the public in a polite and professional manner, including conducting bag searches.
•Completing the following tasks according to the standard operating procedures.
- Professional proficiency in English and ability to communicate effectively in French;
- Candidates will also need to demonstrate that they have the following competencies, as defined by the Civil Service Competency Framework (Band S):
- Collaborating and Partnering – Ability to work both in a team and autonomously;
- Making Effective Decisions – A cool-head, common-sense and decisiveness are all necessary qualities for the job;

- Changing and Improving – The ideal candidate will have an open and flexible approach to new ideas drawing on experience to improve results.
All appointments are subject to professional background check satisfactory security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to provide a copy of his/her passport or national identity card for all nationalities held, an up-to-date criminal record (casier judiciaire) for recent countries of residence (which can be obtained online at www.justice.gouv.fr/cjn/), two written proofs of address (utility invoices and/or bank statements) and two references.
