The British Consulate-General in Munich is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Head Of Automotive Team.

As Head of the UK Government’s Automotive and AEM Team in Germany, your primary role is promoting the UK as the most attractive inward investment market in Europe. This involves identifying and actively targeting Advanced Engineering & Manufacturing key account customers in the German Market who have the potential to invest in the UK. You will manage projects, provide advice and assistance to potential and existing German investors and bring investment projects to a successful conclusion. This is a hands-on role that requires the combination of strategic thinking with a strong practical commitment to delivery and results. You need to be able to see the big picture and organise the operational elements.  

The role also oversees the work of the small team which supports UK companies seeking to sell automotive exports to Germany. This involves supporting that team in strategy development and implementation and harnessing synergies between the export and investment sides of the business.   You will also be expected to contribute to the wider objectives of the British Government’s Germany network and to support a positive working environment.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To identify and actively target Advance Engineering & Manufacturing key account customers on the German market who have the potential to invest in the UK and/or to expand their existing activities;
  • To build strong customer relationships with these companies. This includes working credibly with senior decision makers, as well as having strong organisational skills to track investment prospects;
  • To advise and provide assistance to potential and existing German investors to bring investment projects to a successful conclusion in cooperation with UK partners and to promote the UK as a location for investment through the organisation of and participation in public relations and networking events;
  • To manage the small team covering AEM and automotive on both trade and investment issues. This includes performance management, supporting staff members’ L&D and helping the team delivering their business plans.
  • Fluent in German and English, both oral and written;
  • Good knowledge of the German and UK Business Environments;
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills;
  • Ability to research and analyse complex information;
  • Self Starter – ability to work well on own initiative;
  • Good IT skills, especially MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Experience of the German and/or UK automotive sector;
  • Staff management experience;
  • Project Management experience;
  • Experience of Customer Relationship Management software.

This is a full-time, fixed term contract of 2 years with possibility of extension with 6 months of probation period.
