The British Embassy in Rome is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a temporary Stakeholder Engagement and Bilateral Strategy Officer based in Rome.

The successful candidate will ensure coordinated UK engagement with Italy on the bilateral relationship during the EU exit negotiations, in partnership with the British Council and other UK institutions operating within Italy, leading the Embassy’s work on the cultural relationship and the annual Pontignano conference.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drive forward policy and coordinate work on the overall bilateral relationship within the Italy Network and the wider British family in Rome, particularly in the field of culture, in partnership with Italy British Consulate-General in Milan, the British Council, the British School at Rome, the British Institute of Florence and Visit Britain. Review our regional outreach, identifying the gaps and developing plans to address these.
  • Lead on specific policy dossiers relating to the bilateral UK-Italy relationship.
  • With First Secretary Political External, lead the Embassy’s work on the annual UK-Italy Pontignano conference, including the invitation process, sponsorship and budgeting, and on related activities throughout the year.
  • Manage the Embassy’s Global Britain Fund budget.
  • Coordinate Embassy preparations for the first UK-Italy bilateral summit, likely to be held in early summer 2018.
  • Good IT skills;
  • Excellent stakeholder management and teamwork skills;
  • Fluent oral and written Italian and English (C1 or above under the CEFRL or equivalent);
  • Good budget management skills;
  • Good project management skills.
  • Experience of cultural policy and knowledge of the Italian cultural world;
  • Experience of conference management;
  • Experience of sponsorship management;
  • Understanding of UK and/or Italian government structures;
  • Experience of partnering on projects with the Italian government.

This is a full-time temporary position on a four month contract until approximately 12 July 2018, graded at C4 as per the FCO grading structure.

The monthly gross salary is Euro 3,943.00. The salary is paid monthly 14 times per year including € 10.33 EDR paid 13 times per year.

Working hours are 35 hrs per week Monday to Friday, normally from 09.00-17.00. Some degree of flexibility is expected.

Confirmation of the job is subject to probation and the successful completion of a security clearance and references check process as necessary.

All staff employed by the British Embassy are subject to Italian income tax rate deductions (IRPEF). However the administration of these tax payments will vary depending on nationality.

The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Italian State Social Security Scheme.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Rome are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local Italian employment law.
