The British Embassy in Sofia is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a temporary, Estates Officer.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and manage the implementation of the FCO preventive maintenance programme for properties occupied by British Embassy staff. Owner of the Post Compliance report.
  • Co-ordinate the delivery of maintenance and repair services both pre-planned and ad-hoc, with Embassy appointed contractors.

  • Support the Fire Safety Manager in meeting the FCO compliance requirements.

  • Implement fire safety related recommendations and perform regular checks according to a set schedule.

  • Ensure sound understanding of FCO health & safety policy and implementation of H&S regulations.

  • Support the Corporate services team with ad hoc tasks.


  • Fluent English and Bulgarian both written and spoken is essential.

  • Ability to gather information from a range of relevant sources inside and outside.

  • Proactively contribute to the work of the whole team and be open to taking on different tasks.

  • Capable of working with Microsoft Office- Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Collate information ensuring accuracy of data and attention to details.

  • Good communication skills and able to communicate on different levels.

  • Customer service – working with external and internal customers.

  • Working in Multicultural/International environment.

  • Problem solving (proactively).

  • Managing external contractors.

  • Driver's licence.

  • Facility management experience.

  • Working with documents, filing and archiving.

This is a full-time position (36 hours per week) for a temporary appointment of 18 months to cover a maternity leave.

Monthly salary for this position is BGN 1828.76 gross, payable 13 times a year.

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background and security clearance. Anyone with right of residence and employment in Bulgaria may apply, including all EU/EEA citizens and the family members of EU/EEA nationals exercising a treaty right in Bulgaria.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions service according to Bulgarian employment law.

Visa / Passport requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Bulgaria and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Additional requirements may become necessary pending EU Exit. If requirements change additional eligibility information will be shared during the recruitment process.
