The Governor's office of the United Kingdom in Gibraltar is part of a world-wide network, representing British political and economic interests overseas.
The mission of the Office of the Governor is to support the Governor and Commander-in-Chief in carrying out his constitutional role and duties as His Majesty’s Representative in Gibraltar. The Governor has special responsibilities for the conduct in Gibraltar of external affairs; defence; internal security and certain functions in relation to public offices. The Office of the Governor also supports dialogue between His Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar and His Majesty’s Government in the UK on a range of issues, to further develop the modern partnership between Britain and Gibraltar.

The role of the Residence Manager is to ensure the efficient running of the Governor’s Residence as directed by the official programme and in accordance to FCDO Policies, and the Governor and their spouse. The post holder is responsible for the organisation and planning of major and minor, official and non-official events/functions to the highest standards.
The Residence Manager will also be responsible for line Management and supervision of the Convent Household Team in the execution and delivery of their duties (x2 cleaners, x1 chef, x1 steward).

What will you be expected to achieve:

-Organisation, planning with detailed planning for the successful execution of Convent Functions

  • Working closely with colleagues to ensure that the Convent as a venue is prepared to a high standard and that staff are briefed on what is required
  • Working closely with the Residence team to ensure that food and drink stocks are kept to adequate level and catering production is to a high standard

-Effective line management of the household team.

  • Ensuring appraisals are completed on time to FCDO requirements, and that staff receive adequate staff training
  • Administration of staff working hours and responsibility for identifying additional staff when required
  • Oversight of the work the Residence team undertakes to ensure that daily routines are adhered to and that a high standard of cleanliness is maintained throughout the Convent
  • Responsibility for ensuring that visitors are looked after to a high standard and that guest rooms are correctly prepared

-Ensure the custody, accountability and safe keeping of all the Residence furniture, fittings, crockery, glassware, silverware (loaned from OGD) and paintings (on loan from HMGoG & Government Art Collection) and the Governor and spouse’s personal and private effects

-Displays a high level of financial and budgeting awareness

-Adhering to FCDO finance guidelines

-Ensuring residence guidelines/policies are adhered to, and disseminated to all the residence team

-Responsible for the accountability and monitoring of the Governor’s private expenditure and official expenditure . Also ensuring it is charged to Local Budget

-Working closely with Corporate Services regarding Residence maintenance requirements

-Effective management of Convent Health & Safety requirements and record keeping in accordance with the FCDO requirements

-Oversee maintenance of Convent Garden & Grounds

  • Be the focal point and liaison with external contractors and other Government Agencies to ensure that the garden is maintained to a representational standard

This is a full-time and fixed-term position for 2 years. 

The successful candidate will receive a yearly salary of £24,378.00 (12 instalments).

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and a probation period of six months.

Staff recruited locally by the Office of the Governor in Gibraltar is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local employment law
