Main purpose of job:

The jobholder will be the main point of contact for the Chevening Scholarship programme in South China and support the interview and selection process for the next cohort of Chevening scholars from South China. In addition, the job holder will support the work of the Consulate-General’s political section, such as helping organise key visits and events.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

1)     Supporting the interview and selection process of the Chevening Programme for the academic year 2022/23 (65%):

a.     Responsibility for logistics for all Chevening selection interviews, communicating with candidates, collecting candidate documentation and maintaining interview records. Working with other teams to secure suitable panel members.

2)     Supporting activities relating to VIP visits and Political Section events (25%):

a.     Logistical support for VIP visit programmes, and coordinating Chevening alumni participation in visits 

b.     Work with political section colleagues on delivery of external events

 

3)     Other (10%)

a.     Support ad hoc activities and wider Consulate projects as specified.

b.     Support for Consulate crisis work (if required).

Required Hours per Week: 18

Please note that specific hours of work will need to be flexible, depending on timing of Chevening selection interviews, and timing of key visits/events.

In line with wider China Network policy, there is a possibility that remote working arrangements – ie. working remotely one day a week – can be agreed, depending on the jobholder’s individual circumstances. We support requests for flexible working, but these need to take into account the demands of the job and the working circumstances of other colleagues.


The duration of this position is approximately 4 months
