Economic and Prosperity

The jobholder will bring economic and trade knowledge, to support the economic and public diplomacy lead at the Embassy.  This will involve working on a wide range of macro and micro economic and trade issues in Cambodia.  The role would suit someone who has research and analytical skills and can work confidently with a range of stakeholders in government, civil society and international institutions.  The jobholder will also offer support where required on the public diplomacy priorities of the Embassy. 

Roles and responsibilities

  • Monitor and report on developments in Cambodia, as well as contribute to the analysis of these developments and on trends within SE Asia, in cooperation with other British embassies in the region.  Act as the Embassy’s support officer on trade policy issues such as Everything But Arms, World Trade Organisation obligations, Lower Mekong and governance.
  • Understand the political and economic context for trade and investment between the UK and Cambodia, and within ASEAN, as well as its implications for UK companies.
  • Act as the Embassy point of contact for specific Cambodian Government Ministry’s and officials
  • Plan and manage (as required) Embassy outreach activities and events such as the UK’s National Day (the Queen’s Birthday Party), the British pavilion at the Cambodian Science and Engineering Festival and a range of representational functions at the Ambassador’s residence.
  • Education to at least degree level, preferably in a subject relevant to the position
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English (IELTS certification an advantage) and Khmer, including the ability to write reports
  • Good networking skills and be able to use MS Office packages routinely
