A self starter with outstanding English, excellent organisational and people skills, you will also need to maintain a clear focus and have strong attention to detail. You will need to be flexible and willingness to get involved in a wide range of tasks is essential, as is the ability to be proactive and work well under pressure. The Embassy prioritises collaboration and cross team working. You will need to be a flexible team player who works well with a diverse range of people.

You will need to be confident in your dealings with senior contacts in government and business – both in Peru and the UK.  You will also have a strong interest in local and national politics, be willing to take the initiative and provide a useful perspective and opinion on relevant political topics from time to time.

Main Duties:

  1. Full range of secretarial support for the Ambassador (and other Chancery officers as necessary).
  2. Liaison with London, Peruvian ministries and other outside agencies; distribution and despatch of the Ambassador’s correspondence and papers; dealing with telephone enquiries; drafting correspondence; maintaining an up to date contacts data base including lists of ambassadors in Lima.
  3. Social secretary to the Ambassador, including writing and despatching invitation cards for social events such as dinner parties, lunches, etc; writing name plates for formal dinners; keeping guest lists for all events held at the Residence;  maintaining the Ambassador’s diary and issuing their daily programme. Liaising with the Residence Manager with reference to events held at the Residence. Co-ordinating the Ambassador’s driver’s programme.
  4. Translation work for Political Section.
  5. Making travel arrangements for the Ambassador; including arranging calls and meetings with regional authorities, mayors, local businessmen, etc. Also for official visits to London.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish, both spoken and written.
  • Good understanding of the Peruvian political landscape.
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong team player.
  • Flexible.
  • A degree in International Relations.
  • Experience of the commercial world
  • Event management experience.
  • Project management experience.
  • Applicants should preferably have three years experience in a similar role.
  • Good understanding of the Peruvian political landscape.
