Main purpose of job:

  • The Communications Intern reports to the Communications Officer at the British Embassy in Caracas.
  • The intern participates in content creation for social media channels of the Embassy, as well as for other platforms and media (web, newsletters and others).
  • The intern supports the Political Team in the areas of communications & social media, political reporting, events management and Chevening scholarships.
  • The intern also provides logistical and administrative support to the team.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • To support the Communications Officer in managing the Embassy’s social media accounts. This includes creating content in different formats;
  • To support the Communications Officer in other media activities like press releases and internal newsletters;
  • To prepare a daily press report for the review of the Political and Security Officer;
  • To support in the marketing and logistics of the Chevening selection process;
  • To coordinate and/or provide logistical support for events;
  • To support the monitoring of some Embassy projects;
  • To carry out other administrative duties;
  • To represent the Embassy in specific events and write readouts;
  • To assist in the research and editing of ad hoc political reports;
  • To assist the Political Team in other activities when needed.

Please note that employees and former employees of the UK Government (including interns at British Embassies/High Commissions) are not eligible for a Chevening Scholarship until after two years of completing their employment.

Essential on arrival: 

  • Recent graduates or students in the final year of the careers who have finished any of the following courses: Communication, Journalism, Marketing, Political Science, International Relations, Liberal Studies or related
  • Excellent writings skills (both in English and in Spanish).
  • Experience in social media management and content creation for digital platforms.
  • Basic image and video editing skills (Canva, Illustrator and/or Photoshop).
  • Interested in national and international news.
  • Attention to details.
  • Proactive and ability to learn quickly.
  • Proficiency in MS Office software.
  • Team player.
  • Strong organisational skills.

Language requirements: 

  • Language: English/Spanish
  • Level of language required: Fluent (both written & oral) 

Desirable:

  • Advanced image and video editing skills.
  • Strong understanding of political issues in Venezuela.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work and live in Venezuela. Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.

  • Friday 8:00 – 01:15
