The British Embassy in Hungary is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a energetic and motivated Senior Trade Adviser to integrate the Department for International Trade (DIT).

The main purpose of the job is to deliver the Hungarian part of the Central European regional automotive activities, as well as to contribute to the Budapest DIT team’s activities and the Embassy’s Country Business Plan.


Main roles and responsibilities:

Identifying high value opportunities for British Automotive and Advanced Manufacturing suppliers in the Hungarian market and engaging with relevant key stakeholders in those projects (visiting companies, state / trade organisations and local trade events, monitoring press and public procurement sites), horizon scanning, keeping the Hungarian pipeline constantly up-to-date.

Assisting UK automotive clients in finding local partners (offering DIT’s chargeable service, delivering market research and/or visit programme, administering activities on the client database management system); uploading export opportunities for UK suppliers on the Exporting is GREAT portal.

Leading/contributing to the Automotive regional campaign activities as agreed with the Regional Automotive Lead and the Director of International Trade.

Contributing to other activities as required, mainly in the financial services and retail fields.


College / University level degree in a relevant area or equivalent experience (economics or engineering preferred);

At least 3 years of commercial activity;

A record of delivering commercial results;

Commercial and economic awareness;

An innovative attitude especially towards customer service and performance management;

Excellent communication skills;

Proven ability to develop relationships with customers and stakeholders

Fluency in English and Hungarian, both oral and written is essential;

Strong IT computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office and Internet.


Experience in the Automotive Sector;

Proactive attitude in project and relationship management;

Attention to detail and effective time management;

Experience with Oracle systems and databases preferred;

Track record of delivering projects in virtual/regional teams.

This is a one year fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension based on mutual agreement, and full-time position of 5 days (35 hours net per week).

Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for extra hours worked.

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance. You must have pre-existing work authorisation for Hungary in order to apply.
