View Vacancy - Press and Communications Officer (MLT18.172)
The British High Commission in Malta is part of a world-wide network representing the United Kingdom’s political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Press and Communications Officer to:
- Design and develop strategic communication plans for British High Commission
- Provide a daily review of Maltese press (including translation of Maltese articles if required)
- Establish and maintain contacts with local journalists
- Manage the High Commission’s online presence eg facebook, twitter and website
- Draft speeches and articles
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Social Media management
- Maintenance of and advice on local media networks
- Strategic communication planning
- Speech/article writing
- Liasion with visiting communications officers and networking with colleagues in the Europe network
- Professional experience directly relevant to the key duties described above
- 5 years of work experience in journalism/media (including drafting speeches, public speaking, handling PR)
- Good understanding of Maltese media arena
- Fluent English and Maltese language skills
- Ability to work under pressure, carry a diverse workload, prioritise effectively and demonstrate a positive attitude
- A university level degree in journalism, PR, media, communications
- Existing network of media contacts in Malta
- Confident personality with can-do attitude
- Critical thinker and a personality that stands their ground
- Knowledge and experience in using social media in a professional capacity
This position is a fixed-term contract of 12 months with the possibility of renewal. The Full-Time working hours will be 35 hours per week.
The monthly salary for this position will be € 1637 gross, at a local A2 level.
The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance, and a satisfactory completion of a probationary period of 3 months.
