Main Purpose of Job:
The UK Mission to ASEAN (UKMIS ASEAN) in Jakarta is part of a world-wide network of 270 Posts, representing British political, security, economic, and development interests around the world. The UK became ASEAN’s 11th Dialogue Partner (DP) in August 2021 and UKMIS ASEAN is responsible for leading on that relationship. UKMIS ASEAN priorities and deliverables are formalised through the ASEAN-UK Plan of Action (POA) to cover the period 2022-2026. To deliver that Plan, the Mission has rapidly expanded in the past three years and adopts a team structure that mirrors ASEAN’s three communities: political-security; economic; and socio-cultural. A separate programme team works with policy leads from each of these three teams on five flagship programmes (green transition; health security; women, peace and security; economic integration; education), and the Communications team works with the whole of the Mission to create communications across all the pillars.
In 2026, The UK Mission to ASEAN will celebrate our 5th anniversary as an ASEAN Dialogue partner. This is a huge milestone for the thriving partnership between the UK and ASEAN, and an exciting time to start this role.
The Digital and Social Media Officer will play a central role in the UK Mission to ASEAN, producing high-quality multimedia content including graphics, photography, videography, video editing, copywriting, and web content management. They are responsible for the end-to-end production of social media content — from planning and creation to analysis.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing the UK Mission to ASEAN’s visual identity through multimedia content to be published on the UK Mission to ASEAN’s digital channels.
This role will work directly to the Communications Manager who leads on the Communications Strategy and will be working closely with the successful candidate. This Communications Team of two people sits within the Political Security Team but will work across the Mission and with all programmes and policy leads.
The Communications Team has regular contact with seniors including the UK Ambassador to ASEAN, whose social media content the successful candidate will create.
The successful candidate will be proactive, highly organised and have a keen eye for compelling, culturally-appropriate storytelling and the ability to translate complex policy work into engaging visual content.
This is a great role for someone to capture and tell the UK Mission to ASEAN’s stories to ASEAN stakeholders (Secretariat; member state Missions to ASEAN), and wider Southeast Asian and British audiences.

As with all roles in UKMIS ASEAN, you will be expected to contribute towards the Mission’s corporate functions, e.g. team away-days, annual staff events, actively engaging on one of the British Embassy/UKMIS corporate committees to promote a healthy and happy working environment.
All roles may change with time based on priorities, so a degree of flexibility is required.
This is an excellent opportunity for a creative individual with a background in advertising, design, video editing, photography, videography.
You might not necessarily have worked in an Embassy or foreign policy environment to succeed in this role.

Working Patterns:
Normal working hours are 39.5 (gross) per week: 07:30hrs to 16:00hrs from Monday to Thursday and 07:30hrs to 13:00hrs. At present, all staff working in the FCDO, Jakarta are expected to attend the office for three days per week, subject to change. Subject to operational demands and line manager approval, the team operates a ‘core hours’ policy of 09:00 to 15:00 with individual flexibility around that and two days of work from home per week on request.
Very occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Embassy Standard Terms and Conditions apply and provide for time outside of working hours to be compensated through Time-off-in-Lieu.
The job may involve some travel regionally. A willingness and ability to travel is required.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.
