The British Embassy in Dushanbe is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Projects and Communications Officer.

The successful candidate will manage the Embassy’s Communications and Public Diplomacy output and the Bilateral Programme Budget, administer Post’s annual Chevening scholarship scheme, and provide support to the Ambassador and Deputy Head of Mission where necessary.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Communications and Public Diplomacy:

  • Ensuring social media platforms are up to date, engaging and appropriately used;
  • Increase the scope of the platform of the social media pages;
  • Liaising with counterparts in London and the region to ensure the message is consistent;
  • Represent the Embassy at media events;
  • Support senior management with their local media engagements.

Project Management:

  • Managing the post bilateral programme budget, identifying projects that meet post’s objectives and strategy;
  • Making sure there is value for money, accurate forecasting and budget expenditure;
  • Reporting to senior management on project outcomes and lessons learned, using local knowledge to advise on what sort of projects are likely to be successful in the local environment;
  • Administer the annual Chevening scholarship scheme – advertising, speaking to prospective applicants, preparing the interview process, conducting interviews. Making arrangements for successful applicants to go to the UK, liaising with London on priorities, annual budgets and changes to the scheme. Ensuring post’s allocation is fully used, following up with scholars both in the UK and on return. Keeping in contact with past scholars.

Other:

  • Act as a back-up for Political/Prosperity Officer.
  • Energetic and ambitious;
  • Effective communication, including written and spoken fluency in English, Tajik and Russian;
  • Previous project and budget management experience;
  • Knowledge of social media platforms, awareness of digital trends and practical knowledge of using digital tools (e.g. social media, blogs);
  • Previous experience in drafting articles and speeches and public speaking;
  • Ability to adapt communication style to different situations;
  • Ability and willingness to work effectively and flexibly and to contribute to special events/occasions in the Embassy;
  • A self-starter that can work well both individually and in a team;
  • Excellent organisational skills, ability to deliver under tight deadlines and changing priorities;
  • Willingness and desire for continual learning and development;
  • IT skills.
  • Understanding of UK and Tajikistan’s political and economic context;
  • Previous experience in working in an international environment;
  • University/College degree.

This position is a full-time (35 hours per week) fixed-term contract of 2 years with the possibility of renewal, subject to a 3 month probation period.

The monthly gross salary is $ 1,054 and will be paid at a local B3 level.

The successful candidate, will be subject to confirmation of a professional background check and security clearance.
