The British Embassy in Amman is seeking an individual for the position of Residential Estates Porter/Handyman, Grade – S3.

 

Purpose of the job:

Working as a member of the British Embassy Amman’s Corporate Services Team and taking direction from the Residential Estates Manager, you will be responsible for providing high quality assistance and support services to the Residential Estates Team and where necessary across the Embassy’s offices. Your role will bring you into contact with staff at all grades and you will need to ensure that you remain customer focussed and responsive at all times.

Main Responsibilities:

Roles and responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Taking daily instructions and tasks from the Residential Estates Manager or other members of the Estates Team as necessary.
  • Moving furniture and other items within the Embassy’s residential properties, office and compound.
  • Assemble furniture whenever needed.
  • Ensuring that furniture is moved into new residential properties, ready for occupation by new arrivals.
  • Purchasing low value official items from suppliers using a Government Procurement (credit) Card.
  • Collecting goods from suppliers.
  • Escorting utilities representatives to properties.
  • Covering the work of the other team members when they are away.
  • Checking and supervising the refilling of utilities (diesel, water & gas) at residential properties and the Embassy on a regular basis.
  • Supervising contractors at properties when required.

Essential:

  • Fluent in written and spoken Arabic. Spoken English at the basic level is required.
  • Proven track record in a similar role.
  • Ability to physically lift items
  • Have a valid Jordanian driving  license

Working Hours and Remuneration

The position is full-time, at 37 hours a week with considerations of flexibility depending on circumstances.

Pay is on the Embassy S3 scale, with a salary of JOD 592 per month depending on the candidate’s skills and experience. The package includes a good level of health insurance and a friendly, English-speaking work environment. We offer opportunities to develop professional skills through our Learning & Development offer. Leave entitlement is 25 days (on pro rata basis) plus 14 public holidays.

The successful candidate will be a strong team player and have strong interpersonal skills to be able to interact with a full range of staff and their families. This is also a physically demanding role in a fast-paced environment and you will need to be resilient in order to deliver high standards of service in a challenging but rewarding environment.  We are looking for someone that can demonstrate: Integrity, Honesty, Objectivity and Impartiality.

If you are selected for this position, we will be able to employ you as long as you:

  • Receive the appropriate level of standard security clearance;
  • Have (or be willing to obtain) the right to live and work in Jordan. Candidate's residence permit and work permit, and the expense to obtain them, will be their own responsibility.
