The British Embassy in The Hague is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking for an energetic and motivated Communications Officer.

This is an exciting and fast-moving job promoting the Embassy’s external communications effort across all media channels in support of our objectives. We are looking for an enthusiastic self-starter, with strong communications and organisational skills. The successful candidate will work on both internal and external communications. The job will vary from day to day, so flexibility is an essential requirement.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Media and communications work

  • Monitor social media, working with the Digital Communications Officer to help manage social media accounts and create content.

  • Supporting communications with UK nationals on Brexit, including organising outreach events.

  • Supporting tailored bilateral communications campaigns.

  • Lead on the Embassy’s internal communications

Press reporting

  • Provide daily oral and written morning summaries of the Dutch press. Provide further social and political analysis of the Dutch media and social media.

  • NB: The press reporting task can dictate the core working hours. It requires the officer to start work early on some days, and to occasionally work out of hours (including during weekends to cover special events).

Administration and other support

  • Help deliver cross-Embassy communications support by working with the rest of the Communications team and with other Embassy colleagues.

  • Managing and updating the Embassy website when necessary.

  • Maintaining a contacts database.

  • Set up press conferences and other media events when required.

  • Provide cover to other colleagues when required.

Corporate

  • Frequent opportunities exist for all staff to contribute to the wider mission by volunteering for a variety of corporate roles.

  • Strong communication skills – written and oral, able to communicate effectively in English and Dutch.
  • Experience or knowledge of internal communications
  • Social and digital media skills.
  • Ability to work as member of a team;
  • Ability to manage routine and ad-hoc tasking.





            • Experience of managing social media platforms.
            • Experience or knowledge of working in an international environment.
            • Experience working with (Dutch) media.
            • Experience of original content production (photo and video editing etc.).

                    The successful candidate will initially be offered a one-year temporary part-time contract at A2 level. The base salary for this position is €2.557.25 gross per month, based on a working week of 36 hours. In addition, an 8% annual holiday allowance and a monthly travel allowance are payable. The Embassy currently applies a performance based bonus pay model for local staff.


                    Applicants must be legally entitled to work in The Netherlands.


                    The successful candidate will undergo a professional background check. Any job offer is provisional to a successful security clearance check.

                    Must currently hold the independent right to live and work in the Netherlands and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
