The British Consulate-General Istanbul is looking for a Post Security Manager to provide leadership and oversight of day-to-day security matters, reporting to the Regional Overseas Security Manager, and acting on behalf of the Post Security Officer, on security matters for the Consulate, Tarabya, and other properties including staff accommodation.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Manage a Security Supervisor and Transport Manager to ensure security of the Consulates compound; staff, families; and visitors to the Consulate and Tarabya compound.
  • Managerial oversight and thorough, effective, supervision of the Istanbul Security Team (security   guards) including Performance, Development, Resourcing and assisting in the Recruitment process.
  • Supervise and, where necessary, arrange maintenance of security fences, gates and other barriers.
  • Oversee control of access arrangements for staff, contractors and visitors.
  • Manage security for a heavy schedule of corporate and private events, leading on additional police and security resources and directly supporting the Events and Residence manager in the logistical processes.
  • Conduct hotel security surveys as required for external conferences and regularly review Marker Hotels.
  • Provide duty roster for the Security Supervisors, ensuring periodic patrols and security checks outside of normal working hours.
  • Conducting periodical physical security checks of residences, including surveys before leasing.
  • Account for and be able to operate and arrange maintenance of security equipment, (e.g., metal detectors; x-ray mail scanners).
  • Assist with visits by the Regional Overseas Security Manager and Overseas Security Advisers and lead on specific recommendations.
  • Responsible for overseeing emergency response drills and the operation of the digital radio, and CCTVsystems;
  • Report and record any breaches of security and investigate and report any security related incidents.
  • Co-ordinate/oversee works requests to the Corporate Services team for security equipment and infrastructure.
  • Liaise with Heads of Sections and colleagues to organise additional staff for special events when required.
  • Build strong relationships with Police, Law Enforcement and other Mission Security Managers
  • Act as Fire and Incident Manager taking responsibility for testing fire and emergency alarms on weekly      basis; conducting emergency drills; In the event of an emergency/incident take responsibility for identifying the cause and resulting necessary action.
  • Lead on Fire and Earthquake training from local fire service and AKUT (search and rescue).
  • Lead on Security Team training and development.
  • Oversee Consul Generals Close Protection Officer.
  • Manage pre –employment and contractor security checks for local staff.

Essential on arrival:

  • Extensive experience in Diplomatic Security
  • Through knowledge of the security risks in Istanbul
  • Ability to speak and write in Turkish(C1) and English (B1)
  • Experience of managing a team (including objective setting, annual appraisal writing)
  • Experience of collection and analysis of information, and report writing
  • Extensive expereince of managing Fire Saftey and Emergency procedures
  • Full, clean driving licence
  • The candidate must be residente in Turkey
  • Excellent, clear oral and written communication skills
  • A high level of cultural awareness, emotional intelligence and respect for diversity.

Desirable:  

  • 3 Years of relevant work experience in Security/Police/Military - highly desirable;
  • Police/Security or Military background;
  • Understanding of the security environment in Turkey;
  • Training Delivery experience;
  • Security experience at supervisory level is desirable;
  • Excellent organisational skills;
  • Ability to work without supervision;
  • Experience of managing Fire Safety and Emergency procedures;
  • Flexibility & ability to maintain professionalism under pressure;
  • Relevant IT experience, including MS Office(Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

This is a full-time permanent contract for 5 working days (36.25 hours net) per week. 

The monthly salary for this position is 2,649.25 USD gross, paid in 12 instalments, EO level. Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by local law. 

All applicants should have the right to live and work in Turkey. The British Consulate General does not sponsor for work permits. 

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and a probation period of 2 months. 

Staff recruited locally by the British Consulate General in Istanbul are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Turkish employment law.
