The purpose of this job is to attract investment into the UK.
The role will support the UK Government’s objectives in Australia by leading, developing and delivering investment services for high growth and globally scalable companies from the states of Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. You will provide expansion strategy support, sectoral and location guidance to both new and existing, Australian businesses.
Roles and responsibilities:
This exciting role requires the identification of innovative Australian companies with globally scalable products or services and strategic support for large institutional investors. It involves formulating and executing strategies aimed at generating leads for Foregin Direct Investment attraction from the VIC, SA and TAS states of Australia.
You will have technology sector expertise in strategy, marketing, planning and execution. This will include building capability, identifying and providing strategic introductions, market analysis, and commissioning research. Your role is all about developing new and commercial channels to market and identifying growth opportunities.
The role also requires liaison with HQ and marketing teams on high value campaign (HVC) work in some key sectors. The role will require attendance and presentations at events and relationship building at certain industry forums, and require an ability to communicate effectively. Existing relationships with the startup ecosystem and tech industry to actively support and leverage outcomes will be viewed favourably. The role will include an element of domestic and international travel, as well as for learning and development.
Keen business acumen is critical, as is the ability to work alongside CEO's. You will have to work with a variety of businesses from startup to institutional inestors. You will have superior communication, business consulting and relationship management skills with the ability to build rapport quickly. You will understand how to develop and leverage industry networks specifically.
A superb relationship manager and team player, you will also be part of a global organisation working with team colleagues in other states across Australia, New Zealand, our other international APAC offices to achieve the British government's Regional Trade Plan aligned to the Industrial Strategy. You will also work with a centralised investment services team which supports with UK economic, industrial and consumer research.
This role involves the management of one direct line-report in Melbourne whom contributes to the overall target (as well as any temporary interns that may be recruited). A management function will also require sound administration and accurate, budgeting and forecasting in line with value for money.
The role will include some strategic support and assistance to the broader DIT team (including with trade exports colleagues), the British Consulate-General staff in Melbourne and the wider Australia Network.
- Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate field
- A minimum of five years’ work experience in business, ideally in an international & B2B context, or in business development.
- Ability to develop and maintain networks with senior decision makers
- Strong inter-personal networking, presentation and communication skills
- Good knowledge of the Australian business environment
- Ability to deliver to ambitous targets and outcomes
- Strong research and analytical skills
- IT literate
- Some knowledge of the UK’s business environment, and some regional centres of the UK.
- Some knowledge of the processes involved in overseas company expansions (foreign direct investment).
- Some knowledge of investment decision processes.
Salary is at AU$98,663 per annum (paid out monthly), plus 11% superannuation.
Appointment is subject to an AFP records check and UK security clearance.
Open to Australian citizens, permanent residents, and partners/ dependents of UK-based diplomatic staff currently posted in Australia.
Staff recruited locally by the British High Commission and its Consulates is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Australian employment law.
