Main purpose of job:

The Department for International Trade has an exciting opportunity for a confident, motivated and experienced Senior Finance & Operations Manager, Asia Pacific. This is a new, stretching role supporting a network going through a period of growth and change.

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is responsible for promoting British trade across the world. DIT has over 200 staff working across 13 Asia Pacific countries stretching from new Zealand to Myanmar, led by Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner (HMTC); Natalie Black.

We are recruiting a Senior Finance and Operations manager to join the region’s management team in order to run the finances for the Network.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Overall management of a multi £ million budget for the region and monitoring the day-to-day financial operations within the Network, such as payroll, invoicing, and other transactions

  • Track the company's financial status and performance to identify areas for potential improvement

  • Seek out methods for minimising financial risk to the company

  • Provide financial process and procedure training, including creating training material.

  • Provide insightful information and expectations to senior executives to aid in long-term and short-term decision making

  • Review and present financial reports to board members, stakeholders, executives, and clients in formal meetings

  • Provide support to workforce planning.

  • Monitor bank accounts, managing cashflow and undertaking timely reconciliations

  • Prepare, monitor and report performance against the annual budget and any longer term financial plans

  • Support business planning

  • Support the COO and wider leadership team across an array of finance and non-finance areas.

  • Support the Network in bringing ODA spending on stream and the implantation of new systems and processes

  • Report on external financial issues that might impact on the organisation and offer appropriate advice

  • Stay up to date with technological advances and accounting software to be used for financial purposes

  • Provide ad-hoc financial reporting and support to various Projects and Programmes.

Resources managed:

The successful incumbent will be expected to manage the entire finance process for DIT Asia Pacific including but not limited to:

  • Annual Business Planning
  • Quarterly Forecasting
  • Monthly Budget Management to ensure a 100% outturn
  • All other statutory reporting
  • Monthly Management Reports
  • Working to further embed principles of good financial/accounting practices
  • Performance Management
  • Tertiary Education with an Accounting/Auditing/Financial focus degree and/or undergraduate degree and other professional qualification.
  • At least three years professional work experience in a relevant field
  • Proven project management skills and experience
  • Experience with Accounting Principles and Processes
  • Knowledge of Month End Reporting, Analysing and presenting Financial Information
  • Knowledge of Budget Management and Forecasting
  • Previous experience in a Financial Role
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of Products
  • Familiarity with HR and Procurement Principles and Processes
  • Good time management skills
  • Excellent prioritisation skills
  • Experience of working in the pubic sector and/or for the UK governement
  • Experience of using data visualisation techniques
  • Experience of working with ODA
  • Ensuring compliance of managing public money
