Main purpose of job:

To work as the leading member of the Residence team to ensure that the Residence is run efficiently and in accordance with the Ambassador’s wishes and Country Business Plan.

Prepare professional standard menus for a wide range of official functions, demonstrating high levels of creativity and using food to project the UK’s culture, heritage and global reputation.

Comprehensive menu planning, shopping, purchasing of kitchen supplies, canvassing for cost comparison, recording expenditure, food preparation, cooking and baking.

This involves liaising with the Residence Manager and other members of the Residence staff, and members of the wider Embassy, to ensure that duties are shared in the best way to deliverance excellent services.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Play a leading role in the organisation, preparation and delivery for major Residence events, be it small formal dinners, receptions or major outdoor events, including the Queen’s Birthday Party, alerting the Residence Manager to any potential difficulties or problems developing.

  • To provide an excellent service to VIP’s, Ministers visitors, and alike.

  • To maintain the Residence working areas to in compliance with relevant health and safety standards and in a manner appropriate for an historical Residence, including effective management of waste and recycling.

  • Responsible to overall cleanliness of the commercial kitchen and kitchen equipment.

  • To ensure the Residence is ready to receive Ambassador’s official guests for official engagements, including senior Philippine officials and international visitors and senior UK dignitaries.

  • To keep and maintain the cold room stocks and managing the inventory and ensuring sufficient supplies are available to be served.

  • Maybe required to assist other staff at functions.

  • Prepare meals for the Ambassador and his family when required and wash up.

  • To liaise with ISS (facilities management) on a case to case base to raise a work order for urgent item/s when the Residence Manager is away.

  • Other tasks and errands as assigned by the Residence Manager.

  • Ability to speak English.
  • Formal culinary training or 5 years relevant experience as a Chef.
  • Expert ability to prepare British dishes for official functions including breakfasts, lunches, dinners, teas, buffets and receptions.
  • Experience in planning, managing, overseeing dinners and events.
  • Knowledgeable in baking and food plating.
  • With a strong vocabulary related to food, menu proposal, cooking, baking and food service.

The British Embassy offers a competitive compensation package, guaranteed 13th and 14th month pay, 20 days paid annual leave (calculated on Pro-rata basis if joined after 1 January), extensive medical insurance, life insurance and access to a guaranteed 5 days of learning opportunities a year. For residence staff, the normal working week is 48 hours over a 6 day period with one rest-day.

No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. You must have work authorisation for the Philippines in order to apply.
