The British Embassy is part of a worldwide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are currently looking for an Under Butler.

Working within the Residence team, to work under the direction of the butler, providing support to him and his colleagues and ensure full professional service to the c. 13,000 guests entertained in the Residence each year as well as the c 180 official overnight guests, of which visiting Ministers and senior officials. Tasks include setting up and delivering the c 450 events per year, which range from breakfasts, lunches and dinners to receptions, trade shows, conferences, concerts and fashion shows.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Front of house service: Responsible for greeting visitors to the Residence and providing a high quality front of house service for all meals and events;

Preparation and set up for events: Cleaning the silver, polishing the glassware and china, laying the dining table, clearing away after the service of all meals, washing up and putting away all the items used, general porterage, including deliveries, tables, chairs, staging etc.;

Setting up of technical and audio-visual equipment, including microphones, projections - receiving and testing laptop-based presentations for events;


Greeting houseguests and showing them to their rooms, offering refreshments, and taking care of them throughout their stay;

Cleaning and manual duties: responsible for keeping the pantry and working environment clean and tidy and the fridges stocked;

Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the garden furniture, the barbecue, the cellar and storerooms;

Responsible for receiving, checking and storing deliveries. On occasion, running errands including trips to suppliers;

Other duties to be determined as or when required.

This is a live-in position with accommodation provided in communal staff quarters.

Fluent English required;

High standards of personal presentation and good people skills; Capacity to work well at pace and under pressure;

Good knowledge of Microsoft Office.


 


Basic French is useful;

National Vocation Qualification 2 (NVQ) in food and beverage Service;

Other Front House /Catering or equivalent qualification.
