Main purpose of job:


 


1. Leadership of ODI (Outward Direct Investment) programme in Mexico, including delivery of existing products (Strategic Partnership Programme) and support other teams to delivered structured support to potential ODI projects across sector teams. Liaison with partner organisations, multipliers, and chambers of commerce. Creation of ODI pipeline.


2. Develop and deliver a strategic partnerships programme, using effective account management practices, create a structured support programme for the 20 British companies (exporters and outward investors) in Mexico. Leverage HMA, HMTC, local, regional and London resource to deliver appropriate support. Champion effective stakeholder management and account management


3.   Deputise for Head of ODI & Strategic Accounts LATAC in his/her absence, covering accounts in Mexico and Central America & the Caribbean.


 


Roles and responsibilities:


 


Leadership (50%)


 


You will have responsibility for creating an implementation strategy for DIT’s Overseas Direct Investment (ODI) programme in Mexico. This includes use of the existing ODI product suite (Strategic Partnership Programme, Great British Business Clubs, etc) as well as supporting other DIT teams with best-practice to create a pipeline of investment projects supported by DIT (minimum 30 projects in first 12 months of the job).


 


You will report to the Head of Trade & Investment in Mexico and the Head of ODI & Strategic Accounts LATAC (for strategy and commercial delivery). Your focus will be to lead and deliver on the ODI agenda in Mexico through building an impactful and effective strategic partnerships programme of exporters and investors. You will use it as a platform to support delivery of DIT’s Market Access work as well. You will embody DIT’s organisational values (Expert, Enterprising, Engaged & Inclusive).


 


You will be the main DIT contact point for HMG’s relationship with the 20 largest UK investors in Mexico, and for the relationship with large Mexican companies from a trade perspective, working closely with the Ambassador and the Head of Trade & Investment, and the regional Head of ODI and Strategic Partnerships.


 


Account Management (30%)


 


Using account management techniques, you will work closely with DIT sector leads in Mexico to ensure adoption of best-practice and standard operating procedures on supporting new and existing investors.   You will champion account management process in the Mexico team. You will support implementation of account management processes that identify key UK and Mexican businesses we should support (in tiers). You will develop this according to Regional priority markets and with a view to increasing Exports, Overseas Investment, and reducing Market Access barriers.


 


Representation and stakeholder engagement (20%)


 


You will be a key figure in external representation and engagement with the business community in Mexico. You will:


 


  • Provide business input into the audit of bilateral trade issues between the UK and Mexico
  • Identifying and prioritising individual company and/or sector issues and addressing these through a strategic process of engagement with the relevant local government (working closely with local FCO Prosperity & Political teams);

 


You will be seeking inputs from the business community (UK and Mexico) to make sure this work reflects their concerns. You will make sure this input is consistent with the wider strategy for UK Trade Policy with Mexico and the region more broadly.


 


The jobholder will be the primary UK Government point of contact for new investors in Mexico and for 20 largest existing UK investors. This will require regular travel within Mexico and engagement at senior levels of the organisation (Ambassador, Deputy HM Trade Commissioner), providing them with strategic advice on working with these companies.


 


You will also be required to develop an advocacy agenda for these key investors, as part of the Strategic Partnership Programme.


Essential on arrival: Excellent account & stakeholder management skills and best-practice; knowledge of UK trade & investment in Mexico; government relations & advocacy expertise (minimum 5 years track-record);. Graduated in Business Administration, International Relations, Economics and related field of study.


 


 


 


Desirable: Master’s degree in Business Administration, International Relations, Economics, Public Policy and similar areas. Project management expertise.

You will need to translate your team’s insight to help set strategic direction.
