View Vacancy - Trade Policy Officer -Ankara ( TUR24.316)-Maternity cover
The British Embassy in Ankara is part of a world-wide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Trade Policy Officer to join the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) team.
The main purpose of the role is to address enquiries and issues raised by British companies accessing the Turkish market through investigating and understanding issues, explaining rules and regulations where trade barriers are encountered and proposing actions to remove/solve barriers, where appropriate. The successful candidate will also support with organising events and ministerial visits.
The role entails:
- Identify, understand and investigate problems UK businesses are facing in Turkey through meeting businesses, business associations and think tanks.
- Utilise network of businesses, parliamentarians, think tanks and industry to find solutions to trade barriers and lobby appropriate stakeholders to resolve barriers.
- Monitor and report on regulatory developments and the business environment in Turkey and scan for potential barriers to trade (e.g. through proposed or new legislation) and assess potential impact on UK business interests.
- Report on market access barriers, including through up-to-date reporting on DMAS – DBT’s market access platform.
- Support broader teams as required, including Ministerial visits, business outreach and engagement, as necessary, ensuring join up across the network.
- Fluency in Turkish and English (both oral and written); C1 or above as per CEFR.
- Experience of using networking to achieve organisational objectives.
- A track record of organising, planning, efficient time management, attention to detail and follow-up discipline .
- A track record of working independently with ownership of a project and working effectively under tight deadlines.
- A track record of personal credibility with influential interlocutors and stakeholders.
- Previous experience working with businesses.
- Background in economic, trade policy, lobbying or similar roles in government.
This is a full-time, temporary contract of 6 months for a Maternity cover (with a possibility of extension for 2 months), for 5 working days (36.25 hours net), per week.
The monthly salary for this position is $ 2,900.00 gross USD, paid in 12 instalments, EO level. Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by local law.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and a probation period of 2 months.
Staff recruited locally by the British Consulate General in Istanbul are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Turkish employment law.
