Main purpose of job:

The jobholder will join the Embassy’s high performing Communications Team and help implement a high-impact communications strategy, in particular helping the Head of Digital in researching, drafting and posting content for social media. The Digital Communications Assistant will play an important role in the Embassy’s digital strategy, including monitoring and evaluating social media accounts, developing social media plans, and working with the US Network to implement strategy.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

  • Leading on forward planning the Embassy’s digital communications efforts and develop weekly themes by building and maintaining the team’s planning documents.
  • Supporting the Embassy’s digital media strategy including designing social media content, updating the Embassy’s website on gov.uk and supporting the Head of Digital and UK Defence in US Social Media Manager in running the Embassy’s central social media channels.
  • Supporting visits from UK ministers and government officials by producing social media content and photographing public engagements.
  • Leading on monitoring and responding to public enquiries in the team’s Public Affairs email inbox and social media messages on a timely basis.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the impact of the Embassy’s social media activity by creating weekly reports.
  • Staying abreast of trends, developments and opportunities in the field.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field.
  • 1-3 years of relevant work or internship experience.
  • Experience developing social media campaigns and developing content for digital media.
  • Organisational, communication and computer skills.
  • Enthusiastic and creative self-starter able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with staff at all levels of the organisation with a professional and courteous attitude.
  • Expert level of English language.
