Main purpose of the job:

The Executive Assistant to the UK Defence Adviser is an exciting and varied role providing vital support to the Defence Adviser.  Following the India/UK Roadmap 2030, the defence relationship is fundamental to success in the bilateral relationship.  The EA will assist the Defence Adviser in the management of the relationship by managing events, contributing opinions and ensuring that the DA’s busy schedule runs to plan.

The role requires the character and personality to lead with confidence with a wide variety of defence stakeholders both inside and outside the British High Commission.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Management of the UK Defence Adviser’s outer office.
  • Liaison between DA office, HMA and other senior management across the British High Commission.
  • Management of external relationships, keeping the DA appraised and up to date with relevant contacts throughout the Defence Network.
  • Maintain the Defence Section contact database.
  • Assist in the coordination of VIP visits both in India and the UK.
  • Coordinate Direct Representational Entertainment (DRE) for all Advisers ensuring appropriate financial approval is obtained and that all DRE events are compliant.    
  • Maintain the Defence Section hospitality and gift registers.
  • Support wider HMG and Defence activities as required, eg. large delegations or events, specifically the Queen’s Birthday Party and Remembrance Sunday.

For other than BHC candidates, salary will be INR 67,767 – INR 111395 plus 80% Security allowance, plus 18% in lieu of PF and SAF.
