The British Embassy in Bucharest is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Senior Media Officer.

Main Purpose of Job:

Digital communications lead. Campaigning. Media monitoring and reporting.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • To strategize and deliver the Embassy digital communication. To plan, and produce video, photo, and text messages for the Embassy social media channels, and monitor impact. To manage the British Embassy Bucharest web page on gov.uk;
  • To deliver public diplomacy campaigns in support of the Embassy Country Business Plan, and in co-operating with FCDO Europe Communications and other British Government Departments;
  • To lead on media monitoring and reporting. With support from the Communications intern, to produce timely and accurate media monitoring reports for Embassy key events and for main UK developments with an impact in Romania;
  • To deputise for the Head of Section. To support the Head of Section in handling media relations and in organising public diplomacy events;
  • To line manage the Communications intern, and to support their personal development.
  • Fluency in Romanian (both written and spoken, minimum of C2 level for CEFR framework*);
  • Proficiency in English (both written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*);
  • University or post-university degree in Journalism, Public relations/Communication or related fields;
  • At least 3 year work experience in communications (and/or mass media);
  • Experience with managing corporate social media;
  • Good knowledge of video (and photo) editing and website management;
  • Experience in event planning;
  • Excellent communication and drafting skills;
  • Capability of working well under pressure.
  • Relevant contacts in mass media, social media and the PR sector;
  • Project management experience would be a plus.

This is a full-time fixed-term contract for 24 months (35 hours net per week) with possibility of renewal. Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for agreed extra hours worked.

The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Romanian / UK public holidays per year.

Monthly salary is RON 7,963.00 gross. The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance, and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of 45 working days.

For your information whilst the Emergency Ordinance 79/2017 is in place the job holder will receive a gross monthly compensation bonus of 1,418 RON .
