The British Embassy in Bucharest is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Senior Media Officer.

Main Purpose of Job:

Campaigning and digital lead. Media monitoring and reporting.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To deliver public diplomacy campaigns, along the lines of the embassy communication strategy. To handle media relations in support of the Head of Section.
  • To lead on media monitoring and reporting.
  • To strategise the embassy digital communication, and to liaise with relevant British Government stakeholders in this regard. To line manage the Communications intern.
  • To deputise for the Head of Section, and to contribute to internal communication projects.
  • Fluency in Romanian both oral and written. Excellent English both oral and written (both written and spoken, minimum of C2 level for CEFR framework*);
  • University degree in Journalism, Public relations/Communication or related fields;
  • At least 3 year work experience in communications and/or mass media;
  • Experience with managing corporate social media;
  • Good knowledge of video (and photo) editing and website management;
  • Experience in event planning;
  • Excellent communication and drafting skills;
  • Capability of working well under pressure.
  • Relevant contacts in mass media, social media and the PR sector.

This is a full-time fixed-term contract for 24 months (35 hours net per week) with possibility of renewal. Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for agreed extra hours worked.

The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Romanian / UK public holidays per year.

Monthly salary is RON 7,092 gross. The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance, and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of 45 working days.

For your information whilst the Emergency Ordinance 79/2017 is in place the job holder will receive a gross monthly compensation bonus of 1,418 RON .
