Roles and responsibilities (40%):

  • Responsibility in maintaining an accurate cellar stock inventory and effective system of stock management when receiving and dispensing.
  • Make sure the cellar is always clean and tidy and at the right temperature.
  • Maintenance of cleaning schedules at the Residence and plan accordingly when hosting events.
  • Taking inventories of furniture, art collection, cutlery, crockery, glassware etc. and maintaining the necessary records bi-annually.
  • Assist the Residence Manager and Chef to control and maintain appropriate levels of pantry supplies.
  • Support Residence Manager to ensure that the Residence is operating effectively and efficiently in all respects.
  • Support Residence Manager to ensure that all members of the Residence team are working effectively and happily, are supported and well-managed.
  • Any other duties as instructed by the Line Manager.
  • Supervision of S2, S3 and contract staff in F&B, housekeeping and gardening when carrying out their duties at the Residence.

Roles and responsibilities (30%):

  • Prepare table, serve and clear meals.
  • Simple cooking without assistance.
  • Washing, cleaning all tableware etc.
  • Play part in keeping clean and fit for purpose the interior of the house and the immediate areas outside it.
  • Keep silver and other items (door handles, lamp stands etc.) polished and clean.

Roles and responsibilities (15%):

  • Provide appropriate domestic support to the High Commissioner as the Residence’s Butler.

  • Prepare for and support the delivery of events at the Residence, in and outside the house.
  • Prepare for, receive, look after, serve and see off guests.

Language requirements: 

Language: English 

Level of language required: Spoken – Fluent, Written – Good

Sinhala & Tamil preferred.

Working Hours:

  • Working week of 48 hours over 5 days with a 1 hour lunch break.
  • Willing and able to work flexible working hours according to events and guests at the Residence
  • Be punctual and make good use of all working hours

Essential on arrival: 

5 years of experience in 4 or 5 star hotels, in F&B with 2 years in a Supervisory role

OR

5 years of experience in reputed establishments, as a Butler with 2 years in a Head/Senior Butler position

Hotel School/Hospitality Management qualification is an added qualification

Can do attitude

Willing to work long hours as and when requested 

Desirable:      

Moderate knowledge on spirits, wine, beer & all beverages

Moderate knowledge of food

Basic knowledge and skills in cooking and housekeeping

Basic Knowledge of using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (email)

For British High Commission (BHC) candidates, the Country Based Staff BHC Terms & Conditions will apply. 

For other than BHC candidates, starting salary will be LKR 62,945 + EPF 12% + ETF 3% per month per month. Other benefits include 13 month’s salary (pro-rated) and medical insurance coverage.
