The British High Commission (BHC) in Malta is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Corporate Services Manager.

The Corporate Services Manager serves as a key position within the High Commission, responsible for managing day to day activities of the High Commission.

The successful candidate will understand issues quickly and deliver high quality outcomes efficiently and effectively. He/she will be a natural team leader, well organised, and driven by a continuous desire to improve. He/she must be financially literate, a clear communicator and must strive to deliver the best possible service to customers both inside and outside the High Commission.

He/she will be comfortable operating at all levels, confident and willing to represent the High Commission in contract and supplier negotiations. He/she will be able to accept personal responsibility and delegate effectively.

As well as being a team player, the successful candidate will demonstrate high levels of personal autonomy.

The Corporate Services Manager will manage 7 members of staff and will motivate, develop and support them in realising their full potential.

Main Duties / Responsibilities

  • Managing the corporate services team with direct line management responsibility for 7 staff members;
  • Managing the OBIEE dashboard and local budget in close liaison with the Finance HUB;
  • Implementing and creating corporate policies in line with Foreign and Commonwealth office (FCO) guidelines and best practices;
  • Ensuring the mission achieves maximum value for money through rigorous procurement procedures and practices;
  • Preparing annual, monthly and ad hoc budget reports;
  • Ensuring compliance with correct accounting procedures, and that key performance indicators are met;
  • Managing and supervising the estate: this will include rental policy, lease negotiations, working within FCO guidelines and implementing post accommodation policy;
  • Responsible for HR at post and working closely with the HR HUB in Lisbon. Responsible for issuing local staff contracts and letters of appointment and acting as point of contact for local staff grievances. To be responsible for ensuring compliance between post and the Maltese Local Labour Law;
  • Overall day to day management of the mission; travel, transport, updating post report, new arrivals, heavy baggage and Unaccompanied Air Freight, Welcome packs;
  • In conjunction with the Post Security Officer, ensuring security of buildings, staff and information.
  • Professional experience directly relevant to the key duties described above;
  • Fluent English (spoken and written);
  • Interest in and knowledge of Finance, cost control and cash flow;
  • Interest in and knowledge of Estates management and Health and Safety to UK standards;
  • Interest in and knowledge of Maltese Local Labour Law and HR processes;
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and internet skills.
  • University level degree;
  • Fluent Maltese (spoken and written).
