View Vacancy - Climate and Science Intern
Main purpose of job:
To provide administrative and communications support to the Economic, Climate and Science team, working closely with the Conference of the Parties 26 (COP26) policy officer, the International Climate Finance (ICF), Partnership for Sustainable Growth and Newton Fund staff, to help deliver virtual events and activities, provide strategic and logistical support for programmes, and help deliver the communication strategy of the team.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
1. Support Programming/ODA Events and Activities: Support to the organisation, planning and delivery of virtual events and visits for programme and policy delivery, including the preparation of agendas, meetings and all related logistic activities including quotes, invitations, social media advertising and platforms.
2. Communications: With lead from the team and comms champion, help coordinate and work closely with the Press and Public Affairs team in order to support the communication strategy related to the portfolio of the Economic, Climate and Science Team.
· Continuous relation to promote virtual events, outreach, visits of all areas of interest for the Economic, Climate and Science team.
· Support strategic communications, provide ideas and develop an engagement plan along with the Press and Public Affairs team in line with COP26 strategy, ICF programmes, Partnership for Sustainable Growth, Science and Innovation.
3. Administrative: Work with all team members, guided by the LM in order to update and manage the Economic, Climate and Science local and BEIS budget, if required.
· Support the climate and science teams to deliver administrative tasks related to budget and contacting suppliers.
4. Research and reporting: to provide support with essential research for programmes, such as policies from both the Colombian and UK government, recent developments on areas such as adaptation, resilience and mitigation of climate change, clean growth, sustainable land use, biodiversity, innovation, and information from other relevant stakeholders.
5. To work closely with different areas of the Embassy in order to ensure good coordination and optimise the impact of each virtual event, project, communication piece or policy work.
6. To actively engage in the wider Embassy activities, participate in committees and events.
7. Any other task that might be required as part of the team’s activities.
- Must be enrolled in full-time undergraduate education, such as International Relations, Communications, Marketing, Business Management, Political Science or a similar degree.
- Experience in working on communications strategies and social media.
- Ability to manage databases and budget.
- Fluent in Spanish and English (written and spoken).
- Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel etc)
- Well organised, good team player with excellent customer service skills.
The successful candidate must be in the last year of undergraduate studies in a related field with a strong background in communications and social media, as well as a demonstrated passion for development and climate change issues. It is mandatory that the candidates are students with availability of at least 6 months before their graduation to complete the internship. The internship must be a requirement for obtaining the degree.
Social Security: EPS and ARL
Auxilio de Sostenimiento: $908,526 COP
Must have the legal status to live and work in Colombia.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
