This is a unique and exciting role as a Political Officer (Security and Values), engaging with high level contacts. 

The main purpose of the role as Political Officer (Security and Values) will be to provide reporting and analysis for the Ambassador, members of the Embassy Political Team and London stakeholders. The particular focus will include subjects such as internal domestic politics and Estonia’s external relations, organised crime and human rights. The officer will also lead on some incoming high-level visits to Estonia and other events promoting the UK-Estonia bilateral relationship.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Monitoring and reporting on internal politics and assisting the team, as required, on Estonia’s external relations.
  • Assisting Tallinn and regional colleagues on organised crime and justice and home affairs issues. 
  • Focal point for post-Brexit legacy issues and working with consular colleagues on issues around UK citizen’s rights. 
  • Leading on human rights, including gender, LGBT+, media freedom, and freedom of religion or belief. 
  • Progressing the UK-Estonia Bilateral Strategy Agreement and working as part of the embassy team to support high level visits in either direction.  

  • Either a degree in international politics or a related subject, or broad experience and knowledge of political issues in the UK and/or the Baltic region;
  • Proven relevant work experience in the private and/or public sector;
  • An excellent level of written and spoken English (C1) and Estonian (C1);
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and networking skills;
  • The ability to respond flexibly and creatively to changing priorities.

This is a unique and exciting role as a Political Officer (Security and Values), engaging with high level contacts. It is a full-time permanent contract; the annual leave entitlement is 22 working days per year pro rata and the Embassy enjoys an average of 14 public holidays per year.
