View Vacancy - Senior Legal Programme Officer
Main purpose of job:
The Officer will provide legal support through the undertaking of a range of research projects and management tasks for the Criminal Justice Advisor (CJA). The Officer will support successful and timely implementation of policies and guidance which progress criminal justice reform in the region. There will be close collaboration with internal & external stakeholders, so excellent interpersonal skills are essential. The role will require strong coordination and teamwork skills; planning and organization skills including the ability to manage a number of projects concurrently; excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; proactive approach and the ability to work "hands-on" as required; strong problem-solving skills and proficiency in the use of software, including Word and Excel.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
- Research and analyze international and regional legislation and case law
- Assist the Criminal Justice Advisor to identify and compile content for regional engagements and specific courses (e.g. course materials, practical examples, operational experience, methodologies, case studies, and other supporting resources)
- Produce documents, briefing papers, reports and presentations.
- Assist the Criminal Justice Advisor in drafting model legislation for submission to government
- Supporting effective working relationships with managers and colleagues.
- Managing diary appointments, organising meetings and conferences, preparing and distributing agendas and briefing papers, taking minutes, pursuing matters raised.
- Maintaining offices expenses and organising travel arrangements for staff
The main duties for this position include:
- Providing business support to the Criminal Justice and Asset Recovery Advisor at post
- Legal research and drafting
- May be assigned their own legal projects
- Preparation of management monthly, quarterly and annual reports
- Preparation of project reports as and when required
- Project management and budgeting
- Stakeholder outreach and liaison, including attending meetings when required
- Event organisation and management
- Ad hoc administrative support including processing expense claims and making travel arrangements
Essential on arrival:
• LLB (Hons) or Criminal Justice related degree
•Excellent interpersonal & written skills
• Organisational skills with ability to demonstrate initiative and self motivation
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects at pace
• Advanced IT experience including internet research skills
Desirable:
Experience in criminal legal practice in a Common law Jurisdiction
Annual salary of J$4,242,284.00 is non-negotiable
The position will probably be based at the British High Commission but may require the successful candidate to work from different locations in Kingston. Occasional travelling may also be required.
Work Hours: Full-time with a minimum of 39 hours per week (on the basis of core British High Commission working hours). There will be occasions that will necessitate unsociable work hours; evenings and/or weekends.
Security Clearance: The successful candidate must undergo and pass British High Commission security vetting procedures to ‘Confidential’ level.
Duration: This positions contract is until 6th February 2020 with the possibility of extension.
