Main purpose of job:

You will work within the political section at the heart of the High Commission and support the cross-mission coordination of our work on human rights. The successful candidate will be responsible for helping to arrange visits and events in support of our political objectives in Pakistan, with a specific focus on human rights. You will also contribute to the UK Government’s understanding of human rights in Pakistan through your deep understanding and analysis of the key issues. To do this you will need to develop good contacts, manage events and coordinate visits to help achieve the UK’s human rights objectives in Pakistan. You will support management of our human rights fund, monitoring implementation of projects, help design future human rights programmes and getting projects agreed by the wider human rights network in the British High Commission.

Roles and responsibilities :

Political Support: Visit and Events

  1. Preparing programmes and logistical arrangements for visits, in particular those focused on human rights.
  2. Accompanying and supporting senior staff on visits and meetings within Pakistan and producing records as required.
  3. Support to human rights events, including draft guest lists, sending out invites and working with A2 Admin officer to collate RSVPs.

Political Reporting

  1. Supporting senior political officer to produce regular reporting on human rights issues. Providing advice to London on correspondence received about topical human rights issues.
  2. Drafting human rights ‘Lead Personality Reporting’ as and when required.

Projects and Programmes

  1. Securing funding for Post’s Human Rights Fund work, identifying opportunities for project activity, developing and selecting projects and bids, and managing and monitoring projects with implementers.
  2. Working with Programme team to deliver and monitor wider human rights programme activity.

Political Support: Managing Contacts

  1. Setting up meetings for the Internal Team and the Political Counsellor.
  2. Managing, updating and maintaining human rights contacts.
  3. Building contacts and engaging with experts to inform and supplement open source research.

What we want from you?

  • A proactive dynamic individual with a can do attitude, who works well in a team.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to think creatively to solve problems, often under pressure.
  • Willingness to work to frequent and tight deadlines while maintaining high standard of work.
  • Strong I.T skills in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Experience of project management and an interest/background in human rights work.

Bachelor’s Degree.

Language requirements:

Language: English and Urdu

Level of language required: Excellent command of written and spoken English and Urdu.

Two years relevant experience would be desirable.

For BHC candidates, the Local BHC Terms & Conditions will apply.For other than BHC candidates, Basic Salary will be PKR  133046.
