Our team:

The British Embassy in Sweden is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are now looking for a Prosperity and Policy Officer to:

  • Identify and capitalise on opportunities for collaboration between the UK and Sweden, delivering projects and events and supporting exchange of best practice in these areas;
  • Analyse, report and lobby on a number of policy areas in support of bilateral objectives.

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Collaborate with colleagues, including the Trade and Investment team (DIT) and the Science and Innovation Officers to deliver the Embassy’s prosperity objectives. Areas focussed on to date include emerging tech, digital health care, 5G and green finance;
  • Identify issues where exchange between the UK and Sweden would be fruitful and deliver activity in support of that through planning and running workshops, events, visits, training, etc. Work with the Communications Team to ensure communications opportunities are maximised;
  • Develop a thorough understanding of a number of policy areas (these will be open to discussion, depending on the experiences of the successful candidate). Provide relevant, timely analysis of Swedish policies and practises and recommendations for engagement between UK and Sweden;
  • Develop and foster effective relationships with Swedish Government departments, Trade associations, NGOs, think tanks, etc. to promote UK government objectives and to support quality of reporting to UK;
  • Develop and foster effective relationships with UK Government departments, British Embassies in the Nordic Baltic region and in wider Europe to support delivery of relevant, impactful prosperity activity and policy exchange;
  • Co-ordinate and deliver visits to Sweden by UK ministers and senior officials;
  • Provide analysis and reporting to inform the negotiations on the UK’s future economic partnership with the EU in specific areas;
  • Provide cover and support for other members of the Political Section as need arises.

  • Fluency in English and Swedish (C1/C2 level);

  • Good research and analysis skills;
  • Experience of managing diverse and relationships at all levels of the organization;
  • Knowledge or experience of project management and relevant skills;
  • Experience of working with policy.

This is a full-time 7 month fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension.
