The British Embassy Dublin is part of a worldwide network; representing British political, economic and consular interests in Ireland.

The Embassy is recruiting for a Post Security and Transport Officer. The primary purpose of this role is to act as the deputy to the Post Security and Transport Manager, working under their guidance and management.  Some of the tasks are listed at the bottom of this summary however, this list is not definitive.  

This role offers an opportunity to be part of a growing British Embassy team at this important period in UK-Ireland relations while providing day to day assistance at the British Embassy Dublin around Security, Fire and Transport capabilities and resources.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate will lead on Health and Safety policy in the Embassy and act as Fire Officer.  They will also act to assist with the development of, and promote and enforce, the Embassy’s policies and procedures in the areas of security and transport. They will carry out and record a range of regular checks;
  • They will drive the drafting and updating of Embassy Fire and Health & Safety Policies and procedures, assist in the drafting and updating of Post Security Regulations and Transport policies, and ensure that such policies are clearly communicated, and that all staff know how to respond in a crisis. They will work to ensure that transport is in place and runs smoothly for the Ambassador and for visits;
  • In addition it will also be the post holder’s responsibility to act as a focal point for the liaison between Glencairn Residence, the Embassy and Interserve FM, working with all teams to ensure that notifiable works are prioritised correctly and completed within agreed time frames. This also includes the supervision of private security currently working at Glencairn for the period of a building project;
  • The successful candidate may also undertake some driving duties as required and will on occasion be on call out of hours.
  • Good Communication Skills;
  • Ordinary Driving Licence;
  • Excellent knowledge of English (Written and Oral);
  • Strong IT Skills, Including MS Office Outlook, Word and Excel Intermediate level;
  • Good Organisational Skills;
  • Ability to work proactively, flexibly and collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Driving Licence Group C;
  • Security & Transport Management Experience (advantage – not essential);
  • Health & Safety Qualifications.

This is a full-time permanent position, 41 hours gross per week.

There will be a requirement to undertake some travel in Ireland and in the UK. The successful candidate will also be required, on occasion, to work outside normal office hours.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Ireland are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Irish employment law.
