Consular

Main purpose of job and roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

Press and Political Intern:

  • To support the Press and Political section in its research and public communications activities.
  • To support the Press and Political section in a range of activities, including research on current affairs and the environment, writing stories for the Embassy’s website and social media channel and general logistical support.

Department for International Trade (DIT) Intern:

  • To support the Trade and Investment section in achieving its trade promotion objectives.
  • To support the Trade and Investment section in a range of activities including market research, organisation of trade webinars, updating databases and the promotion of the UK businesses in the market, among others.

Consular Intern:

  • To support the Consular Section in a range of activities.
  • To support the Consular Section section in a range of activities including developing the department’s prevention activity, updating databases, research and information development.
  • Candidates should be currently pursuing or have completed a university degree in any of the following areas including, but not limited to International Relations, Political Science, International Trade, Business/Public Administration, Communications and Audio-visual Production
  • Must have excellent computer skills, particularly MS Outlook and MS Office packages
  • Must be able to work independently and remotely
  • Fluency in English and Spanish (written and oral)

Candidate must possess excellent organisational, interpersonal, and communications skills

Must have the legal status to live and work in Costa Rica.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.

This is an internship and, as such, it will be designed around the individual’s desire to learn and develop. It will offer the right candidate the opportunity to understand how a diplomatic mission operates and see the type of work we do.

Line managers will set the working pattern in agreement with the intern. The maximum hours worked per week are 24 hours for a period of 3 months, with the possibility of an additional 3 months where appropriate.

The Embassy will provide the intern with a stipend of USD $300 per month.

All attachments must be submitted in English.

Candidate must have own laptop and reliable internet connection, as most work will be done remotely. Possibility to go into the Embassy 1-2 times per month.
