The successful applicant will work as part of the Department for International Trade network across Canada, promoting the benefits of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between Canada and the EU to UK companies and raising awareness of UK goods and services to Canadian business.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • To increase UK exports to Canada by raising awareness of the opportunities in market through the CETA sectoral report, promotion events, and ongoing social media campaign.
  • To design, develop and implement a promotion campaign targeting UK businesses in the UK as well as Canadian buyers across Canada. This will consist of a road show of activities and events across the UK.
  • To partner with cross UK government departments, trade associations and industry bodies to deliver a coherent and collaborative campaign.
  • To map key stakeholders and audiences to ensure the campaign targets businesses with the specific benefits for them from the agreement. To link all activity through a social media marketing campaign that will use assets produced prior and during the campaign to raise awareness and encourage new exports to Canada.
  • Design, deliver and present at key business events to promote CETA and the UK as a source
  • To make effective use of social and digital media (Twitter, blogs) to publicise CETA related trade activities in Canada.

  • Bachelor or college degree.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience   working in a professional and client focused environment, in particular in marketing/ public affairs/ government /economic development, business development,   export promotion.
  • Proactive, self-starter, with the desire to   identify and develop new business opportunities and contacts.
  • Positive team player, and flexible in their   approach to work.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication   skills and an ability to flex these to engage with a range of colleagues   across the network, and external contacts at different levels in public and   private sector organisations.
  • Fluency in English with excellent written and   oral communication skills intended for a business audience. Knowledge of   French would be an asset.
  • Strong customer service skills with excellent   attention to detail.
  • Experience   coordinating events.
  • Proven skills in time management and   prioritization, and the ability to effectively manage, and execute multiple   and competing tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with the Canadian   business and government environment. Experience or knowledge of the UK   business and government environment would be an asset.  
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications
