Main purpose of the job:

The main purpose of the Enrichment Team Entry Clearance Assistant (ECA) role is to help reduce the threat to the UK border of immigration abuse. 

The Enrichment ECA role is to check and verify the information included in visa applications is accurate, truthful and complete. ECAs verify documents to ensure they are genuine and interview visa applicants, and their sponsors, to gather factual information about their visa application. The Enrichment ECA’s findings ensure the visa-officer (ECO) has the relevant information about the applicant when making the visa decision.

Enrichment ECAs conduct background checks, help identify forged documents, interview visa applicants and their sponsors, make reports on their findings, update UKVI records and help identify patterns of abuse.

Enrichment ECA work is an essential element of UKVI’s work and there is a firm emphasis on national security and a culture of customer satisfaction for people who wish to come to the United Kingdom legally. The ECA role is integral to UKVI’s vision to be recognised as a globally trusted operation that delivers excellent customer service and accurate decisions that keep the UK safe and secure. 

This Enrichment ECA role is based in New Delhi but focused upon visa applications made by nationals of Bangladesh. Fluency in Sylheti – verbal and written - is essential.

Roles and responsibilities:

There are a range of VSA – grade A1 roles in UKVI. All the roles will involve the following generic responsilbities:

Delivering Results

  • Data-entry; inputting, accessing and updating UKVI’s IT systems
  • Linking paper correspondence with relevant records
  • Record management – IT and paper based
  • Passport handling, visa writing and passport despatch
  • Information checking and verification
  • Meeting personal productivity benchmarks and undertaking all tasks with a very high degree of accuracy.

  • Understanding and striving to meet UKVI’s customer service targets
  • Dealing with all customers fairly and courteously
  • Acting with professionalism in all circumstances
  • Referring queries to more senior staff when appropriate

Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with visa applicants and their sponsors (in English and Sylheti) by telephone and video conference in order to build a rapport and gather & test information, whilst obtaining the required detail in a professional and customer friendly manner. Having the ability to challenge omissions or lack of veracity as appropriate.
