Main purpose of job

The Regional Project Manager is responsible for the assured delivery of small to medium projects and day-to-day management of an ongoing programme of works for key overseas clients under the guidance of the programme Manager.

Supported by a Project Controls Officer, based in the region, the Regional Project Manager will ensure projects are delivered to defined time, cost and quality standards and that all governance processes are followed within the established monthly schedule.

What will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

  • Work alongside the Regional Portfolio Manager on the management and delivery of local and regional projects and programmes, working to agreed timescales, costs and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop periodic project and programme reporting for Regional and Corporate Management Boards as well as providing ad hoc status updates to key internal and external stakeholders including customer and senior management.
  • Chair (currently bi-weekly) customer Project Review meetings; log actions and minutes, and ensure both customers and end users are fully appraised of the delivery of our projects.  
  • Build rapport with customers and key delivery stakeholders to ensure an open line of communication and the ongoing satisfaction of project delivery.
  • Record and manage programme and project changes through an appropriate system (raise change requests as required, maintain change log).
  • Problem, risk and issue management (with escalation to Regional Portfolio Manager as required). 
  • Project closure activities, ensuring projects are effectively closed in-line with corporate governance standards including lessons learned.
  • Creation of regional delivery method statements, defining how individual projects will be delivered within the region.  Highlighting what resources and materials will be used etc.
  • Liaise with Regional Portfolio Manager on possible project delivery process improvements and streamlining.  Develop and implement these changes where appropriate.
  • Assist with the development of fee proposals for prospective customer works, interpreting customer requirements and working with key stakeholders in order to define a solution that meets the customer requirements whilst providing value for money and an effective delivery methodology.
  • Other ad hoc tasks as required within project delivery.

Resources managed (staff and expenditure):

No staff management.

As part of the overall project management the Project Manager will have financial responsibility for the full costs of the projects they manage. This will include sole responsibility for all spends under £10,000, with oversight of projects managed up to £500,000.

Essential on arrival:

  • Experience in Project Management and a relevant qualification, such as PRINCE2. 
  • Demonstrable experience of project management methodologies and their application in the design, development and implementation of projects.
  • Sound knowledge of financial controls and management with knowledge of aspects of the project life cycle.
  • Ability to prioritise and plan own workload in order to meet customer and management deadlines.
  • Sound judgement and decision making skills, as well as good communication skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience of delivery projects within overseas environments. 
  • Experience of working within HMG Government.
  • Knowledge of UK Health and Safety requirements including the Construction Design Management (CDM) delivery of projects.

Working patterns:

  • Standard 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
  • Flexible working options available for between 25-40 hours per week: Working from home, reduced hours, compressed work week or a job sharing.  All to be agreed with the line manager.
