Main purpose of job:

This post is a key member of our Healthcare & Life Sciences Trade team, who support the agenda of the UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT) within the British High Commission (BHC). DIT’s aim is to promote British trade and investment across the world which is vital for the prosperity of the UK.

The Healthcare & Life Sciences trade team is focused on supporting UK exporters to dramatically grow the volume of trade in the sector with India through strategic export campaigns (including tackling market access barriers – see below), pipeline development, and by supporting UK companies to translate these opportunities into export deals and partnerships/collaborations. As part of our strategic export campaigns in these sectors, you will also work on market access issues which hinder trade e.g. non-tariff barriers. This is an important part of our work and includes lobbying or advocating the concerned government departments to overcome these barriers.

We are looking for a dynamic, high-calibre colleague who will make a real difference to the UK-India trade relationship.    As a senior representative of the team, you will manage senior-level relationships with India’s leading corporate houses in bio-pharma, medical technology, and in healthcare. Ideally you should have an existing network of contacts in this sector, or should be able to quickly develop one.

You will be a self-starter who is highly organised, can plan and manage yourself, and build productive relationships.

Experience and knowledge of the Healthcare and/or Life Sciences sector is critical. For the purpose of our trade promotion work, the key segments of our campaign in India include healthcare, bio-pharma, and medical technology. You will bring with you an in-depth knowledge of the sector and use this to build a strategy for your region, targeting current and longer term opportunities for UK business, focusing  particularly on large or high-value deals where UK government support or intervention can make a real difference.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

As the North India lead of the Healthcare & Life Sciences team for trade you will:

· Develop and execute sector strategy for your region, i.e. Delhi/NCR/other North Indian states, enabling UK exporters to dramatically grow the volume of trade. This will be done through developing a pipeline of opportunities for UK businesses, and by supporting UK companies to translate these opportunities into export deals.

· Support and scope opportunities in other North-Eastern states for the sector. As part of this you will be required to undertake limited travel in India, as well as to the UK on occasion.

· Use key account management principles to build and manage senior level relationships with Indian and UK businesses, government stakeholders and partners within Healthcare & Life Sciences.

· Work on market access issues which hinder trade e.g. non-tariff barriers with our Trade Policy Team where Life Sciences features as a priority sector for early work with the Government of India.

· Support UK companies looking to invest in India where agreed (case-by-case basis).

· Plan and deliver activities and events to connect UK business to opportunities.  You will also be expected to provide support and inputs to Ministerial/VIP visits and deliverables across the wider network in India; and support colleagues in the team across India on specific projects, events and activities.
